Another prospect for us to keep an eye on for next year with Toby Sinnema seemingly tied to our club via the NGA.

He is currently spending a week at the club alongside Kalani White.

The Dandenong Stingrays product was listed as 179cm at the start of the 2024 season and managed an impressive 17 games as a bottom ager while only 16 years old. He was selected in the U17s futures game.

#6 Toby Sinnema (Dandenong Stingrays) Wing | 179cm | 11/12/2007

Sinnema had some typically electric moments in the first half, providing a spark to Vic Countryโ€™s attacks. The wingman backed his pace and could be seen launching long kicks inside 50, even fancying his chances within 55 metres of goal. He managed to stick one of his attempts from long-range in the second quarter, thanks to an unselfish shepherd from Tairon Ah-Mu in the goalsquare.

Many thanks for posting.

The fact that he's at training suggests that in addition to being in our NGA, he's also eligible for drafting (unlike Tairon Ah-Mu).

ย

SInnema comes from Narre North Foxes FC and averaged 13.9 disposals in 2024 from 17 appearances with the Dandenong Stingrays. He also kicked five goals in seven games of senior football for Devon Meadows in the Mornington Peninsula Football Netball League.

Toby looked an absolute ripper at training today - a slightly bigger version of Jack Viney and with similar confidence.

Reports do not completely confirm that he's our Academy kid, but if he is then we finally may have got payback from the system that stole Mac Andrew from us.

He definitely looks top-10 material to me and given he doesn't turn 17 until Dec 11, he should have plenty of upside.

Given we have already given away our top pick for 2025 draft, we will need to be shrewd finding enough points to cover for him. And what a coup if we also get Kalani as well next season.

I think next year allows for swapping future picks 2 years in advance

Can someone explain NGA eligibility please?ย  Does he need to fit into a particular category (eg, born overseas)?ย

The player can be born here, but I believe eligible if they have indigenous background or if the participant has at least 1 parent that was born overseas and are from a multicultural group that is (significantly) under-represented in the AFL relative to the population.

The Sinneman!

I hope he doesn't copy Brodie Grundy's hairdo and sport the Sinneman bun.

Hopefully he doesn't go to the devils.

Oh, sinnerman, where you gonna run to?
Sinnerman where you gonna run to?
Where you gonna run to?
All on that draft day
We got to run to the ruck
Please hide me, I run to the ruck
Please hide me, run to the ruck
Please hide here
All on that draft day
But the ruck cried out
I can't hide you, the ruck cried out
I can't hide you, the ruck cried out
I ain't gonna hide you there
All on that draft day

I'm keen to see a return of the 'facepalm' emoji and my posts can only aid the cause.

So whats the story with 5.1??

So are the Demons allowed to take Toby "Films" Sinnema as an NGA prospect? Or is the AFL trying to take him away from us too? ๐Ÿ˜’

Please tell me you are basing that โ€˜top 10โ€™ assessment on more than training today.

Heโ€™s got talent. Definitely would be a bonus if he was NGA eligible. ย ย

AFL will no doubt change eligibility rules just for next year, reaming us yet again.

  • AFLW REPORT: Gold Coast

The forecast said wind. The ladder said mismatch. The scoreboard said obliteration. Melbourne didnโ€™t just beat Gold Coast โ€” they dismantled them: 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6). An 87-point obliteration, the Suns held goalless, and the Demons delivering their second-highest winning margin and third-highest score in AFLW history.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #28 Will Verrall

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #29 Tom Campbell

The 33-year-old Campbell has yet to play AFL football for Melbourne, but his Casey form has been strong and he has been retained as a ready-made ruck depth option who is widely regarded as someone who is excellent for the culture of the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #30 Harry Sharpย

The Demons acquired an interesting player in Sharp, who narrowly missed securing a spot in the Lionsโ€™ premiership team last year. The 22-year-old medium forward played in the opening round this season and ended up with 18 senior games, although he was substituted in or out in for ten of those matches. He demonstrated glimpses of form, but ultimately ended the year on the margins of the team.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #31 Bayley Fritsch

Worked his way back after a slow start and a further slump in form going into the midseason but became a solid contributor for the club in the latter half of 2025. Closing in on 300 goals for the club.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Letโ€™s be honest, last weekโ€™s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper โ€” second versus seventeenth โ€” football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.
