I don’t usually care about media narrative (whether potting or praising us), but this isn’t surprising. Cam Luke has been one of our biggest supporters alongside Rohan Connolly for years now.

Luke always lights up when any discussion involves Max Gawn.

one positive - every player, bar i think charlie spargo who might take some time to get going after achillies surgery in july, will report to the earliest preseason start weve had since the end of 2019 injury free, touch wood. that cannot be understated in importance.

lost 4 close games.   Win 2 or 3 of them and in finals and the conversation changes.  The reason we lost those games was because of injury to top players.  2 big losses hurt, but that's all.

What has the media got right in the last 12 months or so about Melbourne?  Clarry going last year?  Petty?  Kozzy? I wouldn't trust those media leeches as far as I can throw them.

It is wise to remember there more AFL approved media than there are players. They are all trying to justify their existence. Result lots of BS.

I can find little things to be positive about of course. But man aside from the kids we draft and the kids we have, it's tough to be excited about what's coming. Hope I am wrong.

Careful you will be branded as negative. 2024 has been poor in numerous areas however I think the major reason for our fall this year were injuries. No injury to Trac that ended his season at the half way mark as well as loosing Gus forever ended our year. On the positive side a reasonable run with injuries will see us back in the September action. The recruiting has been successful in the past I am confident we will see some good results in the next few weeks.

I'm semi-optimistic about next year (at least in it not being a debacle), but #9 is the worst entry* in any list ever put together.

* slight hyperbole

Very true, very true you can also add in Leigh Montagna into the conversation always positive on the Dees.

100% spot on with Montagna, but he’d had enough of us by years end, and rightly so.

ANB to finish top 3 in the Crows BnF will be a positive to look forward to...all for pick 28 we are a soft joke

and it looks like we're about to trade that pick with an F1 for pick 9, so things do work out.

I'd say our woes this year started long before Trac getting injured, it started when we lost Gus so close to the start of the season.  They really struggled to fill that void that he left, and the role he would have played.

It's great to get a thread on here about hope.  It's a very powerful thing and has led to great outcomes in the past.

This season was super close, the competition is very even now.  I don't think we will see back-to-back Premiers again for a long time.

This season was tough for the Dees, we lost Gus before it started with no compensation, had a tough draw and a bucket load of injuries.  Despite all this, we only finished outside the 8 by a couple of games (and we had more than a couple decided by less than a goal!).

For mine, the evenness of the league means that being able to develop players & depth are more important than ever.  We all saw what the injury to key players can mean.

We blooded lots of youth this season and will bring in another raft of good young players in this draft. We will also get an easier draw, so hopefully less travel and longer breaks (you could lock me in for 1:30 each Sunday at the 'G and I'd be quite happy!).

I fully expect us to improve on last season and make the finals.  Brisbane has just shown that finishing top 4 isn't necessary to win it all if you are fit enough and know how to play at the MCG.

Go Dees!

They're coming from further back. I'm surprised they couldn't find more. Not to say they'll actually make the 8.

Thats all fair…..I’m more concerned with how the club has handled all this. If we were doing it all so well why did our President quit?

Simple answer, why get yourself beaten up in the media, by the supporters etc etc, just go back to being a supporter and enjoy the footy again, that is what I got from her speech at the B&F

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
