How many times was the ball just about to go out of bounds in our forward 50, only for an opposition defender to take possession, waltz through 3 broken tackles and set up a punishing turnover going the other way.

That's one aspect I absolutely hated about our football in 2024.

Agree.  Only Chandler and ANB are effective tacklers in forward half.  And we are losing ANB.

Fritsch, Petty, JVR all were lacking in tackling pressure in 2024. Mcadam was horrendous in his brief appearances.

It's once in a blue moon stuff that I have inside info but here we are. This isn't a setup and any club who picks this bloke up is absolutely insane. There's a LOT of baggage here and no number of goals could make up for the toxicity that bringing JS in would bring with him.

Agree with Fritta.

Petty to an extent. Probably didn't have the tank perhaps.

I do think Jvr was the best of the bunch but at times gave up a tad early.

Will miss Anb. Big time .

Kozzie was good.

But it's something we need to fix.

Forward half pressure. It’s a must. You see it as clear as anything during finals.  Lions. Swans. Both have it.  Stringer would add nothing to our group and cost a big $$$$ pot.  No.

I don’t think this is the way a strong culture works - you don’t import a player into a good culture and it immediately converts the individual for the better. Culture is formed by the individuals within the collective, and while it can exist in spite of the influence of a few NQRs, it doesn’t mean it can fix them. Moreso a strong culture will not tolerate their presence and endure until they are gone. And it enables those made of the right stuff to thrive.

It’s the same issue with Owies too, albeit he’d cost a lot less than Stringer. 

We were 13th for average tackles inside 50 this year. Funnily enough though, Sydney was 15th. 

Here's a list of people I'd rather we brought in instead of stringer.

Agree with most of your points, s o n s, except for JVR.  He does apply pressure and tackles, but unfortunately is often buggered by stints in the ruck.

And thats the reason for a big NO, our culture is not good and he would make it worse!

I dare say that Stringer would apply more forward pressure than what Fritsch does.

I'm actually thinking the Swans could have interest, they need to re-jig their forward line and might be one of the few clubs who can extract the best from him.

For G and c sake please stop the bashing of Fritta. All Clubs have players with differing skills and tackling is not Bails top skill. But he has 15 other skills that enable him to kick match winning goals like vs the Cats that only Kossie ang Trac exhibit. 

Also how many of our present players could kick 4,5, or 6 in a Grainy? 

Just realise that Bailey has won far more  games for Melb than lost so just stop the [censored] and back him in. 

He can go next level as Kossie if both put in a concerted effort to improve but it’s got to be a Club or personal desire to go from 40 to 60 goals or 35 to 50 each season. 

Let’s hope both can do it.

I’m confused.

You’re critical of some people for criticising Fritsch but then you say Fritsch “can go to the next level if he can put in a concerted effort to improve”.

Concerted effort in what areas?

Perhaps more effort in chasing?   
Maybe being stronger in a 1 on 1 contest?  
Being better at sticking a tackle?

These are the things why some of us are critical of Fritsch. No-one doubts his class with the ball.
