Agree. He had no preseason, and then came into the side when we were playing some of our worst football of the last 5 years. Get him fit and confident, and get the ball to him, and it can all come together quickly. 10 Quote
SthSea22 658 Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 Give him 1 more season before we throw stones at him Needs a MASSIVE pre season 18 1 Quote
Canplay 635 Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 I've said it before - Tm Lamb better have a good trade period because his last couple have been a disaster - keeps taking the list backward ; - got cheap on Jacko - offered $650k first up - should have gone straight to $1m and we'd have another flag in '23. - let Grundy, Bedford, Jordan and Hunt leave for peanuts - and brought in rejects Billings, Schake, Hunter - and paid overs for McAdam - gave Clarry a 7 year deal when he had massive off-field issues.... Thank god for Jason Taylor is all I can say.... keeps picking the eyes out of top picks - give him pick 5 in draft as I don't trust Lamb to effectively trade it. 6 1 2 1 Quote
poita 3,945 Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 In the least surprising development ever, a player who was lazy, half hearted and injury prone at Adelaide became a lazy, half hearted, injury prone player at Melbourne. What did everyone think was going to happen? 3 1 Quote

Yup. I recall people potting the Melksham trade for the 2nd rounder we gave up. After a season there were still some questions. Then in 2018 he then became one of our most important players. That was the year he led the competition in goal assists. x4 his output from the year before. 22 to 32 goals. He's also gone from "lazy and half hearted footballer' to a mature leader and an important player Edited August 27, 2024 by John Demonic 5 1 3 Quote

I could make cases both for and against it in terms of his best still being bloody good and the sort of smart dynamic player we need around our forward line, but just questions on if his body will allow him to play at the level next year - feel he was being managed as the super sub towards the end of the year. Would love to see him stay on, I'm just not sure it's a wise move though. 2 Quote
YesitwasaWin4theAges 6,831 Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 I'd be expecting that pick 25 back from the Crows for ANB, might even win our BNF or come 2nd to Gawny. 2 Quote
Norm Smith's Curse 2,602 Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 (edited) Many have really written this guy off after one season and there are many excuses. But in one game where I was sitting behind the goal posts I just had no idea what he was doing. He seemed to constantly be trying to move his feet under the back of the defender who was picking him up and going behind him when the ball was coming in from further out than 50 metres. It was really strange. Like instead of separating from his defender opponent when the ball came in he was right up behind him but not blocking because the ball was in front of the defender. Correct me if I'm wrong but they can't send our own pick back to us would have to be a different 2nd rounder 1 Quote
Supreme_Demon 4,144 Posted August 27, 2024 Posted August 27, 2024 Will desperately need Shane McAdam early next season with Kozzie Pickett missing the first 3 rounds. Hopefully Jake Melksham stays on for another season or two as well. We will absolutely need his leadership in the forward line with Alex Neal Bullen going back to either the Crows or Power. 2 Quote

So absolutely no F50 pressure then - feels like a good way to start the season - sorry but I’m just a bit jaded by the AFL and certain events atm 1 Quote

Yeh was a bad start for him, but need to back him in to lift in 2025. He's got some of the right tools, hopefully fit and firing at pre-season. That being said a little ominous with 10 AFL games over 2 years though. 2 Quote

Offensively he straightens up our entire forward half and does a great defensive job on intercepting defenders, not to mention the leadership he brings both on field to our young forward line and also team culture. 3 1 Quote

Was he getting behind his opponent to prepare for a 1 in 100 opportunity for a specie instead of getting in front for a 1 in 5 chance of a crumb? Doesn’t sound like a team first move 1 1 Quote

I certainly hope that his body stands up to the rigours that he has faced and enables another round; his sharp wits - whatever build-up we have in the forward line - is very, very useful in both assists to others and in his individual abilities. 2 1 1 Quote
