only watched the first half and then went home

i didn't think gawn did much in the first half; did he do enough to claim a 7th all oztrayan or will it go to xerri, a clearly inferior ruckman?

i thought pickett was great - only player who looked lively forward of centre

salem the best of a bad lot and i guess mcdonald was decent in the air defensively

3: pickett
2: salem
1: mcdonald

God that Salem bloke is so slow and a liability

Been in the votes for 3 weeks plus

His detractors must be hating it

Thats why he wont get a vote from me either! Getting slower with dodgy strings and dinky kicks resulting in turnovers

5 Kozzy

Was a hard watch at the ground.  Defensively really poor. Votes are difficult to give in this one but there were three standouts for us who everyone has identified.

6. Gawn - beat Cameron convincingly on a night that didn't favour the big men. 20 disposals at 75%, 13 contested, 5 clearances, 5 marks and 3 of those contested as well as 25 hit outs.

5. McDonald - a heap of intercept marks.  Did a decent job on Hoskin-Elliott who wasn't a major influence.  A good end to a decent season and worthy of another 12 month contract.

4. Pickett - Koz looked our most dangerous and destructive forward all night. When he's on he plays with real spirit and last night he had it.

3. Salem - a massive second quarter, where he amassed half his total stats for the game.  He is creative but also costly.  Hopefully a full preseason might see him back to 2021 standard.  But he was ok last night.

2. Chandler - covered ground but not great in the contest.  At least provided options. Not enough tackles for a small forward but wasn't horrible.

1. Billings - much like Chandler but slower.  Still he worked hard.

Tholstrup did a couple of nice things.  As for the rest, very little to report. Congratulations to Gawn on his outstanding season.  He is a true warrior and a deserved winner of the Demonland POTY.

6 - Max a much better 2nd half

5 - Salem stay fit and healthy

4 - TMac should go around again

3 - Chandler worked hard all night

2 - Kozzie best forward

1 - Trent Rivers reasonable 100th

Jack Billings eased out for Riv’s 100th.

A lot of sick or injured players tonight or just run out of puff after a disappointing year. Pies had the best 4 players on the ground last night and by some margin.

On a night when there were very few shining lights wearing red and blue:

6.  TMac  -  very reliable in an undermanned defence.  Capped off a very solid year, after many of us thought that injury and Father Time had caught up with him.

5.   Gawn  -  leadership by example is what we’ve come to expect from Max, and that’s what we got, from the start to the final siren (I loved the passion / determination in his eyes when he addressed the players immediately after the lightening break).  Another AA coming up, together with prestigious Demonland Player of the Year.

4.  Chandler -  often maligned, but I thought this was one of his best games for the club.  Has made good progress this year imo.

3.   Salem -  solid game, but spoiled a bit of his good work with uncharacteristically ‘iffy’ disposal.  Having said that, he probably chose some more difficult options with a view opening up the field for our boys, and, in the circumstances of the game, you can’t blame him for that.

2.  Pickett  -  a typical Kozzi ‘live wire’ game.  Our only forward who always looked dangerous when the ball was in his area.  Unfortunately, it didn’t get in there often enough.

1.  Rivers  -  got a fair bit of the ball, but ‘butchered’ it too often.  Still a solid game from a player who is still learning the trade

6 GAWN. huge heart. Tried all night. Beat Cameron convincingly.

daylight

5 Tmcd. Yes had a good night. Beat Daicos 1-1. Two brain fades. Deliberate out of bounds.  Bad decision to mark instead of punch v HoskinElloitt cost us a goal. Otherwise tried and tried and kicked well

4 Chandler.  Nice goal.  Good tackles and put his head over the footy

3 Salem.  Again strong contribution.  Intercepted several Pies attacks. Generally good disposal except for 2 howler turnovers that cost goals

struggling now

2 Langdon.  Ed kept running and got better with more involvement

1 Turner.  He shows spirit.  Lovely goal

apologies to Kozzzzy ( good goals but it was a nearly night … nearly got away from quaynor, hit the post from 7 metres out, nearly got through congestion, nearly nearly )

Riv in 100th was serviceable as was Billings.

LIVE AND LET DIE by Meggs

The Demons’ impressive late season charge to finals will most likely come unstuck this Saturday evening when the Bombers blow up the also-ran Blues in the Ikon Park double-header.   To mangle McCartney, what does it matter to ya? To have any chance to play next week Narrm has got a job to do and needs to do it well.  We’ve got to give the Pie sheilas hell, say live and let die! It’s Indigenous Round for this game and the chance to celebrate and engage with Aboriginal and Torres

After a bright start to the season, playing mostly in defence, Howes seemed to lose his way in midseason but fought back with some good performances at Casey and finished the year back at AFL level. Originally an NBL basketballer with the Brisbane Bullets, he moved across town in 2019 to the AFL Lions where he played 19 games before crossing to Melbourne where he was expected to fill a role as a back up ruckman/key forward. Unfortunately, didn’t quite get there although he did finish equal sixth in Casey’s best and fairest award. Date of Birth: 23 February 1999 Height: 198cm Games CDFC: 14 Goals CDFL: 13

2024 Player Reviews: #10 Angus Brayshaw

Sadly, had to wrap up a great career in midstream on the back of multiple concussions which culminated in the Maynard hit in the 2023 Qualifying Final. His loss to the club was inestimable over and above his on field talent given his character and leadership qualities, all of which have been sorely missed. The son of former Demon Brownlow Medalist Shane, Taj added a further 16 games to his overall tally of games but a number were as substitute. He is slowly fitting into the team structure but without doing anything spectacular and needs to take further steps forward in 2025 for his career to progress.
