A ruckman coaching our forward division, yeah right, can we get someone who was an ACTUAL forward to do the gig next year?

This is such a narrow mined view.  Nothing to say an ex forward has to be the forward coach.

Forward line work is a craft especially with young forwards so it's different if we had experience forwards who know that craft but we don't.

Great to see a measured response to his news

Ask Dermie and Lloyd

Dermie at times is like my wife telling me what happened during the day, long way round to tell me the ending in other words waffle on, but Dermie does know his [censored] when talking about forward craft, all I hope we get someone with knowledge.

Thanks for your efforts, came to the club when we were rock bottom and no matter what is said played a role in our rise and ultimate success.

Best of luck in your future endeavours

Contributed to us getting a flag so I’m eternally grateful! Best of luck for the future

TOM HAWKINS would be a great start!

So you'd prefer a forward with no experience as a coach over a coach with no experience as a forward.

Not sure I agree that this would be the best way to proceed.

BBB retires and a couple days later Stafford is gone/leaves, anything in that or a kawinky dink?

BoBo, I was thinking the same.

Wish him well. Believe that will be at Richmond FC

Thanks Danny’s.  If that’s the case, it’s pretty clear that Adem Yze liked what he saw of Staff at the Dees.

100 Percent!

Thanks for everything, Staff. Your fingerprints are all over our premiership club. All the best in your future endeavours. I know it was already mentioned, but always had a laugh when he rattled those bin lids in the rooms after a win 🤣😂

So you reckon after 11 years as a forward coach, he still doesn't know anything about being a forward coach?

I think if I was in the same job for 11 years, I'd learn something.

Seems like a top bloke and hope he finds another niche alongside our boy Yze

Any idea who we may poach for the forward coaching role?

Tom Hawkins

I also reckon if I’d been in a job in a cut-throat industry for 11 years, including during a pandemic when clubs had to slash numbers, without knowing what I was doing, somebody probably would have noticed before and moved me on.

What coaching expertise would ⛏️ 👃☝bring?

Hird, Buckley and Voss #1 at least - great players, not so good coaches.

I was thinking along similar lines.  Still involved with the club through AFLW, and even if not formally a forward coach certainly could continue as a mentor (which I suspect he is already).

Reposting this as it's relevant again.

Here are the forward coaches at every club. Spot the "actual" forwards.

Adelaide - Scott Burns
Brisbane - Murray Davis
Carlton - Jordan Russell
Collingwood - Justin Leppitsch
Essendon - Dale Tapping
Fremantle - Jaymie Graham
Geelong - James Rahilly
Gold Coast - Brad Miller
GWS - Jeremy Laidler
Hawthorn - Adrian Hickmott
North Melbourne - Xavier Clarke
Port Adelaide - Chad Cornes
Richmond - Kane Lambert
St Kilda - Robert Harvey
Sydney - Jarrad McVeigh
West Coast - Matthew Knights
Western Bulldogs - Matt Spangher

Thanks for all your efforts over the years Staf, through the good times and the bad you left an almighty imprint on the club and culture.

To be a fly around that camp fire at your joint at the start of 21 would have been an unreal experience, creating long lasting bonds that would cement our 13th🏆 premiership.

Safe travels to your next destination.

Out of this list spot the Ruckman....

Forged a great tenure at the club.

Will be good to see new more new ideas at the club though as we evolve how we move the footy.

Wonder if Chaplin could move forward if he sticks around, it is so important the assistant coaches for the game style, keeping things fresh, improving and developing players and yet it is so opaque for those from the outside to judge.

I'm going to make a hot tip here - Stafford will step away from AFL-level coaching and take some obscure down on its luck country team to 5 consecutive premierships while bringing new life and optimism to a whole community. Keep an eye out for a quirky ABC series to be made about it.

Ahhhh yeah right, I forgot he was involved with AFLW. Guess we’ll see what happens!

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

It's Game Day and the Demons are back at the MCG and have a massive challenge ahead of them as they take on Premiership contender the Gold Coast Suns. What do you want to see from the Dees today?

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
