No they don’t. They get sued all the time for defamation.

Yeah, but mostly by rapists, war criminals, dodgy property developers and Queensland judges, who all have mysteriously deep pockets.

I mean, let's be blunt here; we're not in on the Channel 7 gravy train for scumbags, so the costs wouldn't be worth the victory, nevermind the Streisand effect.

When I said “sued” I should have said “claimed against”. Not all of it ends up in court, and not all of that ends up plastered all over the media either.

But regardless, it’s not the club I’d be concerned about if I were Caro. It’s the MFC doctor individually, who she is borderline alleging was medically negligent, or the other medicos (ambos, hospital docs), or MCG staff (she insinuates there were miscommunications which led to Trac’s condition being worsened).

Brutal exit for Kate??

Voluntary and clean. Kate had met Smith the week prior to her interview with Whateley.

Caro just flies by the seat of her pants.

So many terrible stories still to come out?

I'm calling it...[censored] and BS artist.

Someone has to be getting Caro, Warner etc to keep pushing this agenda.

The thing with journos is that they have free pass to use innuendo, heresay and rumours to spread whatever controversy they want.

Any accountability from their part? 🤐

Very little sadly. The Social Media age has degraded journalism to a gutter profession.

(Some) Lawyers get a bad wrap for being ambulance chasers, Journalism in the 2020s has taken it to a whole other level.

Further to my earlier comments about Caro's ill-informed rant, she is either irresponsibly or deliberately ignorant of the facts. It really is quite poor the way the rest of the panel sit there wide-eyed and slack jawed as though she is saying anything revelatory and informative.

For one thing, Caro tries to make it sinister that CP was first taken to the Epworth (the closest hospital to the G). And it is certainly not the fault of the MFC or the hospital that the initial scan did not reveal the extent of CP's injuries. We all know, because we have been paying attention, that it took two scans and then and only then a dash to the trauma unit at the Alfred.

Now Michael Warner is having a go today, and describing MFC as a, and I quote, "****show". He is such a wordsmith isn't he, this trained journalist, such a wordsmith...Clive James must be spinning in his grave with envy. And on the SAME PAGE as Warner, Jon Ralph reports this: "Melbourne's treatment of CP's injury...was given a tick of approval by multiple reviews conducted by the AFL and the AFL Doctors' Association, despite his anger at the club's treatment of his incident.

"The reviews found that while it was regrettable Petracca had been put back on the ground, the actual processes put in place by Melbourne's doctors had not been flawed. (my emphasis)

"The Demons used the AFL's emergency physician at the MCG for a second opinion with the review finding initial consultation in hospital was unable to diagnose his spleen concern.

"AFL Doctors' Association boss, and Gold Coast club doctor Barry Rigby is also an intensive care doctor. "We have looked at Christian's circumstances closely and done a constructive critique on what did nor did not happen. Hindsight is a wonderful gift...but there was an adequate assessment done. The decision in retrospect (to return him to the ground) was the wrong one, but we don't want to criticise the process."

Now that is dealing with facts and findings in contrast to Caro who is all shadow and innuendo. And as for those gormless co panellists, they have no idea.

Pretty sure that everything bad this club will experience over the next 6 months will come under the heading 'Christian Petracca' - for all of our sanity, it's time to close this thread down.

That seems to be the case.
Perhaps we should shorten the title to

CP

Then we could rename it

Consequentia Perennis

Just a pity the Media are more concerned with Carlton not having Curnow next year, instead of Essendon's and Footscray's woes, along with two present coaches still in some hot water over well known stuff, as well as all Clubs in strife for possibly sending concussed players back on the ground.

Other than that it has been a great season ( i think not)

I have never heard them being taken anywhere else.
It is the closest private hospital.

Btw it’s up to the paramedics to decide where to take a player. Not up to the club.

I am unsure if the AFL have a deal with Epworth given its proximity to the G but I cannot remember a case where an AFL player has been taken to a public hospital from a game. Certainly, players land on the ED doorstep if they have an incident at home.

You are correct that the ambo's determine where you go. They know what the wait times are whether a hospital is on bypass and base it on their assessment of the patient's condition and any medical handover. With my last ambulance adventure, the ambos assessed me and asked if I had private insurance and if I have a preference. I suggested the Alfred and thought that wasn't a good idea as it was at capacity and stretched to the limit. They strongly advised a nearby private  hospital which is where I ended up.

The only time I've ever heard it happening was when I heard Sam Newman talk about his kidney injury in the late 60s. They took him into the rooms and left him on a rub down table where they were going to wait until half time to check on him but when they realised how serious it was he was rushed to the Alfred.

But that's the only one I can think of and it was over half a century ago.

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.
