On a positive note, with so many things going against us this year, we have lost to 3 finalists by less than a goal.

Is there a limited edition commemorative poster for that?

Yes when he is fit. What does a poor last quarter tell you? He’s cooked. Petty the same. They are struggling to run out games.

He is falling in and out of games too frequently (his 1st half last week was poor) which he has never done due to his high standards. I hope it's only a fitness issue.

I know people are saying we got close with a lot of young kids in the side - but this was our leaders who lost it.

Gawn was absolutely bullied by Briggs in that game breaking spell start of q4. May, McDonald and lever gave up marks deep inside 50 to Hogan and green. McDonald turns over lateral kick for goal. May drops mark. ANB run down on the wing, partially due to Melkshams poor handball. Lever drops intercept mark with 1 min to go. Oliver let's Greene walk away with the last clearance.

Not good and alarming for the future

Yes. 10 players with 150+ games of experience and I feel for the coach...you just don't know what you're going to get from those guys who you should be able to bank on.

We've unearthed some decent young talent this year but are we just going to see those guys fall off a cliff as they hit their peak years as mostly seems to be the way at MFC?

We won a flag with a pretty young and promising list and their overall ability to execute in the contest has just been poor for 3 years. Commitment to applying pressure seems to just be when they feel like it...it isn't a non negotiable.

After trying to recruit players by spruiking that we see 3 or 4 flags in our short term future, there will likely be 8+ teams that have won at least a single final since 2021, and we won't be one of them. We are about to be passed by Hawthorn. Again. The fumbling of the whole thing by the whole FD is jarring.

And on the crowd thing, it needs to be a two way street. These guys continually find ways to let interstate sides come here and embarrass us on our home turf...and why exactly would people want to turn up and cop that?

This x 1000. And ... it will only get worse as the season gets longer.

And a couple of others with compromised pre-season/season where it's not as pronounced but is still having an impact. Bowey for one.

They're not alone there though.

I'm really frustrated with Fritsch, he is a class player but his defensive efforts are deplorable. Late in the game "chasing" an opponent across half back his heart rate wouldn't have gone above 80bpm.

16k is club killing stuff

I saw that. He seemed to just give up.

He's hopeless at defensive acts

We are missing yze as our midfield coach.

I'd rather lose by 5 goals tonight.

Part of me wants to miss finals because changes will be made, but I also think it would be good for koktyn, windsir & taj to experience finals

not having a go but do you think our midfield was better the last 2 years. considering we had Trac and Gawn and a firing Oliver? We have been trancing downwards since the flag. I see little difference since Yze left. our Delivery inside 50 is maybe better?

Not enough passion tonight. From the players or the supporters. Even the cheersquad looked really thin.

Where is the fight from Demon fans?

What do you want us to say dude? Some of us tried.

As for the fight I don't know what you'd want us to say there either, two reasonable sides, one is a very reasonable side and did well when it counted and deserved to win.

Could we have pinched it? Sure. Over 80 minutes though we didn't do enough.

@binman to discuss this week.  I’m sure the coaches are working on WHY WE ARE GETTING KILLED IN CLEARANCES. Ps. It’s not because Gawn was missing.  Poor setup. Midfield coach  might need to be sacked.

reminded me of Freo last week. not just soft centre clearances either. 3 of them gave them goals . to lose Centre clearances  8-0 when the game and indeed the whole frikn season is on the line is both unthinkable and unforgivable.

It's been an issue for ages but because we've been winning it never gets bought up. Unless he has the ball in his hands he doesn't do much else

That was a part of it.  The other worrying thing was they weren't exactly Jarman to Dunstall passes from those clearances.  The inability to spoil some of those entries is a real worry.  It was like Lever, May and McDonald were observers at that stage.

He has been our saving grace this year, against Hogan in his best year ever, and you want him to retire off 1 bad game?

Yeah, it was his worst game for years tonight, but he's had a great season and should go around again next year.

IMO, we need him to go around again too.

I really don't understand comments like this. It was always obvious that losing Brayshaw and Petracca was going to cost us the season, add to that an unfit Oliver who can hardly even get through games yet alone have an impact. Yet people are surprised and calling for heads to roll?

It is what it is. Why can't people put on their big boy/girl pants and deal with it?

Yes we are missing players as we all know however it doesn’t excuse the lack of effort at crucial stages and our uncanny ability to be mentally weak in the clinches.

The worst thing for us to do is to waste 2x first rounders on Dan Houston.

Please don't go down this road MFC. 🙏

Gus Brayshaw is a loss of titanic proportions when we talk about mental fortitude.

Such a cop out excuse.

Footy is a 4 quarter game.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
