No way - Howes, Tholstrup, Turner, Brown - these guys need to play every game this year, to see if they're going to make it

It's about 2-3 year planning now....2024 is cooked

Nah. play the blokes who are better

McAdam has had 3 games and has been the scapegoat when Petty, Fritsch and even Chandler have been putrid

You lost me at 'better' and 'McAdam'

Let's agree to disagree

There’s no way I’d drop Tholstrop , and I really hope Kynan gets a full game

Fritta out - Fullerton in (against old side and double team Big O and free JVR up)

Bowey Out - Woewodin in (only if Salem is ok)

Howes out - Lever in (Tomlinson to Howes role)

Chandler to sub, Pup Jnr full game

We can't drop Fritsch, he's been down but without him our forward line is absolutely horrific.

Just seen a post from the club highlighting Andy Moniz-Wakefield's numbers on the weekend for casey. These posts often precede a debut in the seniors.  It'd be interesting to see what he can do in the ones - Brisbane up there is a bit of a baptism by fire, but if the practice of debuting players as sub is the way of things that could be an option.

Just saw Answerth is injured for the Lions.
Wanted Petty to take a screamer on that [censored]’s head.

What happened to the horse thread?

quality banter, just gone

is nothing sacred?

Obviously it's Lever (if fit) for Thomlinson.

Bowey and Chandler haven't played well for a while but it's hard to see who would do better.  A month ago I would suggest McAdam but nothing showing there.

On Casey form you would have to say AMW who had 30 plus touches and if Salem is doubtful because of knee, then he could help out in a midfield role.  WOULD CERTAINLY ADD NEEDED MIDFIELD PACE.

There's little defensively at Casey to take Bowey's spot.  Hore is the most likely but he is listed as a test.

If they rest Windsor I would prefer Woewodin over Billings. At some stage they'll give Sestan a go.   Not likely to make 4 changes though.

Just not Billings, he struggles at Casey let alone AFL level.  Feel bad for the guy but he isn't bringing much right now.

Hunter is available, wonder if they'd give Windsor a rest

I don’t care if Fullarton did nothing at casey

Once JVR goes to the ruck and Gawn to the bench we absolutely struggle… even more so than we already do.

JVR must stay forward

when on the bench then maxy goes forward.

Surely $4.40 for a team sitting above another team on the ladder would have to be some sort of record this late in the season. Even Port were shorter odds against the Lions in the QF in 2023.

I honestly can’t remember the last time we won a game being such underdogs. Probably Perth in 2018 at Optus to claim top 8.

It's harsh on Tomlinson but probably what will happen - would prefer to see them drop Petty (let him sort himself out at Casey for a few weeks) and throw McDonald forward, keep Tommo down back with May and Lever.

North played well, really well.

in lever, sestan

Out, Bowery, Chin

Whilst I have been hoping that Sestan could push for selection, he had one kick and 6 hand passes,  though 4 tackles is a sort of positive. We have seen players promoted on similar stats, though these weren’t debutants.

No Tomlinson

Ever

I’d take Billings over him every day of the week

jumbo - not in any way like for like.  And what really do you see in Billings, now or in the future??

Zero in both, mono - I should turn my sarcasm meter up a notch or two. Seriously, they’re both shocking

$4.95 I just got, and the line was 29 points head start with Jake lever back in the side.

Look I don’t think we will win on probabilities, but those odds are too juicy to ignore.

Lever for Tomlinson.

McAdam's been underwhelming but at least he'll try to chase and tackle. We simply can't cop Fritsch's ongoing efforts and whatever that disaster was on Saturday night. Seriously, why keep tolerating such below par efforts in the hope they change rather than do something proactice?

AMW for whom? Bowey? Howes? Salem? They all have to be options. Or play him as sub. Kynan Brown can go back to Casey and push his case for a full game when he's more ready.

Is this an impossible task? Extremely difficult for sure. A fit Lever will help. Windsor needs a rest and it's Hunter for mine. AMW might just add some spark. Prior to last year our recent record at the Gabba is reasonable. Our last quarter against the Roos was awful but to be 6 goals up at three quarter time with so many blokes down was impressive. If we had extended that by two or so goals we'd be having a different discussion.  Roos no easy beats now. Knocked off West Coast at Optus and led the reigning premiers by 54 points.  Inexperience and umpires cost them. Lions in good form ,however, Port deplorable and even Fagan alluded to the fact that illness had swept through the Power camp. The week before StKilda put 106 points on Brisbane which is unheard of this season.  I'm not always optimistic but have a feeling here. We owe them for embarrassing us at the G. Few gave the Lions a chance that night. Second week after a bye helps. $4.95 seems exorbitant.  Let's see.

To be fair, you can probably count on one hand the number of times we’ve been underdogs since 2021.

Time to make a statement and drop Clarry he has been putrid.

we've been horrific with him in there. He needs to be sent a message, hopefully other players take heed of it too.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? The two examples from above tell us how fickle form can be in football. Last year, a committed group of players turned up in Adelaide with a businesslike mindset. They had a plan, went in confidently and hard for the football and kicked winning scores against both home teams in a difficult environment for visitors. And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.
