Adam The God 30,730 Posted May 31, 2024 Posted May 31, 2024 I thought someone posted that Frederick wasn't playing? Anyway, he's a handy player and difficult to shut down given his pace. He's a good "in" for them. 1

Deelectable 1,043 Posted May 31, 2024 Posted May 31, 2024 Sunday becomes a massive game for us now. Stay injury free and we can take care of the Pies next week. After the bye it's North, Lions, Eagles & Bombers. Three of those at the MCG. Definitely not getting ahead of myself but this one could set us up. Stop them at the source and we're a real chance. I hope we're not carried away with last weeks win. Saints awful. Having said that,it was a huge win and encouraging signs. Imagine if we can get a bigger output from Petty, Mcadam and, to a lesser extent, Fritsch. Even Clarry and Viney have a cog or two they can add. Good at their best Freo but still putting some store on the fact we have played in Alice Springs 11 times and this is their first. 1

Dual ruck combo going to be a real challenge for Max particularly with no JVR. Think we need to put the clamps on Serong. Brayshaw damaging also but we not best advised to tag both. Our midfield has been struggling. This is actually correct in that he'll be up against a battering ram in Darcy, who he should beat convincingly on a standard day in isolation. However, Darcy's still a big frame. The energy required will still zap Max's energy throughout the game plus there's the usual battering & bruising. Then there's the agility and athletism of LJ. Again the effort required to combat the two very diff styles, with LJ potentially jumping allover and into Max will be super high in this game. 11 hours ago, Queanbeyan Demon said: I'm really concerned about this too. Those duel ruck combos that clubs have been running against him for 10 years have practically destroyed his career. So yeh, well sorry but this is not the point QD. The point is you want to conserve Maxy as much as possible for finals by giving him a serious chop out in the ruck for substantial minutes. That chop out would normally fall to JVR but of course we now revert to Petty. Petty might actually do the job a tad better than JVR tbh (in terms of raw hit outs to advantage) but unfortunatley Petty (so far) hasn't fired a shot as a forward in eight out of his nine games and is horribly out of form in this major part of his role. He is also coming in off yet another minor foot/anlkle issue. Hardly an inspiring prep for someone who's in the horrors already due to a post lisfranc recovery and the restrictions that inposed on his pre-season prep. Fullo is the ideal alternative (at least to trial / try) to Petty, yet STILL remains stuck at Casey. Could have been trialled vs the Eagles, wasn't. Missed last week due to a minor calf niggle apparently but right to go this week. Unfortunately again, at Casey. You want to get Max through a season having a significant impact, which he is. But you also want to get him coming into finals super fresh and ready to impose himself on the competition and take us deep into finals and in the short term, winning at least one of them! Relying on a severly out-of-form, injury encumbered/ prone Petty is a very poor strategy and a risky one at that imv. You also can't afford to carry a player against quality opponents like Freo or better as it will eventually come back to bite the team on the arzzz in terms of potentially losing you a tight match when the whips are cracking. Yes, if you keep persisting with Petty long enough, eventually he surely has to find some sort of form and it might begin in this, his tenth attempt. Any up tick will also appear like it's a big win also as he is comijg off such a low performance base over such a long period (nearly 2.5 months) of waiting and watching / hoping. But again it's an uber risky strategy and makes no sense when you've had an alternative (at least to trial in the short term and allow Petty to go back and try and find his owm mojo) sitting at Casey and who you apparently recruited to do exactly this type of role. Would the alternative actually work and a stint at Casey actually help Petty find his mojo again? We'll never know as the option's never been tried. And imho these are the sort of list management trial runs and tweaks that need to be made to see what you have sitting on your list if needed coming into or closer to finals if the need arises. However the trialling needs to happen now (and earlier) and especially when you're up against lessor light opposition like the Eagles, North and the Tigers. It's too late and too risky to do so when the whips are cracking closing in on finals or in a finals campaign itself. Edited May 31, 2024 by Demon Dynasty

He built our brand of smashing teams in the middle and from building arguably the best midfield in the comp. We've since changed our game style in the Chris Scott mould being less reliant on stoppage. Collingwood are the same. Sure, defence is a cornerstone of our game, but the idea that we don't focus on contest right across the ground is a bit of a fantasy. I was joking, he'd pick 18 backmen at a maximum 😉 Being serious, I love Goody as our coach. He has a philosophy and he sticks to it and continuously tries to make it better. He's also a bloody hard worker, a diplomat and incredibly resilient. 1
MrReims 324 Posted June 1, 2024 Posted June 1, 2024 Disco is talented as just has it upstairs, natural footballer with obvious incredible drive and desire to get better. Only a matter of time before he really explodes, the abberation a few weeks doesn’t even count for me, lot of luck involved. But he works incredibly hard and has pure basic football smarts. I’d be playing him every week until it suddenly clicks because if we do, by the end of the year he will be and absolute ripper. But then again, you all already knew that, anyone that picket pots regularly becomes a great player 3
Diamond_Jim 12,772 Posted June 1, 2024 Posted June 1, 2024 Lucky Freo left Perth yesterday as a refuelling issue has thrown Perth airport into chaos https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-06-01/perth-airport-planes-grounded-refuelling-problem/103922850 Perth Airport said a problem with load pressure in the fuel lines was causing the issue. "Further cancellations are expected and in-bound flights which have not already left their departure points will also be impacted," a spokesperson said in a statement. "Airlines have been advised not to send aircraft to Perth Airport until further notice unless they have sufficient fuel to make a return flight." It's understood some flights have been delayed since Friday night, leaving thousands of passengers stranded. 1
Deelectable 1,043 Posted June 1, 2024 Posted June 1, 2024 Their on ball brigade is formidable. Darcy, Jackson, Fyfe, Serong, Brayshaw and, to a lesser extent O'Meara, is formidable. Also concerning that Amiss and Walters are due up forward. Need Petracca to continue his good form and Clarry and Viney to get back to somewhere near their best . Salem needs a repeat of last week with Kossie,ANB, Sparrow and others to chip in. I think Petty should to go to Pearce and playing a negating role. If he kicks a couple it would be a bonus. Hoping Tomlinson can stay on top of his game. For me, Turner might have to do some work in the ruck. Don't fancy Petty in there for too long. Might be sounding a bit negative with all of this. Actually think we're a better team. Just hoping for a good start again and no in game injuries. 🤞

leave it to deever 17,617 Posted June 1, 2024 Posted June 1, 2024 Looking at the average number of goals kicked by our fwd line players this year and there is reason for concern. Not sure we have this one. Same old story in that we don't have enough talent fwd. Unless Petty comes good in this game, we will lose.
Flower Magic 776 Posted June 1, 2024 Posted June 1, 2024 Perfect day at Traeger Park for the Captain’s Run. Flawless playing surface. Lots of supporters up from Melbourne. Heaps of indigenous kids cheering for Kosi. The boys looking super fit, not a knee bandage in sight. 4 3
