Better now than later in the season. Though once again, it confirms that so often players are carrying injuries we don't know about that must be impacting their performance.

Not an excuse for Sunday, but I wonder if there wasn't more going on than we knew - Max for one, May for two. Why was May playing on the less dangerous, less mobile forward, especially once it was clear that Waterman had McDonald's measure?

Just idle conjecture, but I know from being around elite level sport in various ways from time to time that all isn't always as it seems.

We have plenty of cover for him. Not 100% but good enough. Next in line .

Who? Because both Hore and Disco are injured. So in fact we have 0 intercept defenders right now who are fit.

We can probably cover a forward more easily. In which case drop Petty back and replace him.

This might force us to abandon the failed Petty forward experiment.

I imagine Tomlinson will be recalled before we bury the Petty forward experiment. JVR (provided he's recalled) will play 20-25% ruck which will leave us too short in the F50 without Petty.

I agree that Petty should go back, despite it completely stuffing up any continuity for him trying to become a forward.
However we don’t have forward cover either. Brown is unable to run, Schache is no good and injured, and I believe Fullerton is also injured?
Playing with only one tall in JVR is not going to work especially as he also has to help in the ruck.

Tommo comes in always solid never rewarded, at least until hore or disco are ready.  Petty stays forward we need him to hit form if we are any chance of winning a final. can't rely on Roo to be our main goto all season.

If Tomlinson doesn't come in now I have no idea why he is on our list. Yes, he's no world beater but has been Casey's best and is the natural replacement.  Petty has to remain up front given the paucity of forwards. I'm not overly confident this will occur.

Looking ominous.

If this injury dates back to the tweak against Hawthorn I'll be quite peeved.

Is there anyone on our list who isn't (a) carrying an injury that should have been rested earlier or (b) coming back from injury lacking form and match fitness? Our player management is leaving a lot to be desired.

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
