I would say with Turner and Van Rooyen out it would likely be McAdams and BBB into the team, unless Salem is fit and ready to go

Are you referring to Turners, Van Rooyens, Salem's & BBB's as well as to McAdams ?

yr looking at these numbers in isolation tho

of those 19 where we scored less than 3, what did the oppo score?

Ok then let’s go back and see how many quarters we won.  Or won by less than a goal for instance

it used to be win 4 goals a quarter on average you win the game . I feel embarrassed unti we kick our first goal because I am not sure we will.
against Carlton who scored first in each quarter.    Even the last they got a goal within 30 seconds .

i just think we need a better strategy going forward and better coaching in that area.

effort. I hope we win against the eagles, but it’s only hope,

Yeo is not playing. he is 30 with recurring groin issues. They will not risk a 2-3 weeker for a potential season/career ending. They are not challenging for the flag but more blooding the new players.

I will be shocked if he plays before the mid round bye.

WC will finish bottom 4. Bottom 4 teams should be beat by flag contenders comfortably. A comfortable win (in my definition) is 6 goals minimum. Logic is logical.

Except there is no way the club would set such a target. No way.

Sends all sort of wrong messages to the players and breaks the golden rule - respect your opponents.

Goody will likely do what he always does - set a benchmark score we want to keep them under. That's ot.

It he wants us to score more heavily than we otherwise would he will simply develop an agressive plan, and specific strategies (eg go fast, play on quickly, take on high risk corridor kicks etc) that if implemented effectively will lead to higher scores.

And the margin, if there is one, will look after itself.

100%. My statements are purely on the result. There is a process our club must follow. It is deeply rooted in a culture which prides itself of mutual respect and method. These are intangible. If we follow our process and apply our method, then what i said above, applies. 6+ minimum. Whether that result is achieved by limiting them to < 40 points or us kicking higher than our average of 80-90, im not too fussed (although i'd like it to both).

Better the former if the goal is four points and as much a percentage boost as possible.

If they don’t pick Verral they may pick Thommo to take TMacs role and put TMac up forward and ruck

Ben Brown in for Turner

If they do decide to rest Windsor for a game , it could be this week and bring Hunter in.

They might give Salem one more week too , rather than risk a long flight.

Koltyn and Mc Adam possible smokies

Out: JvR, Turner

In: Fullarton, Brown

Seems the most logical. Unless we want to go small and bring in Tholstrup or Laurie ahead of Brown.

Maybe but I hope not. Having TMac, BBB and Petty in Forward line will not help us ONLY if they mark the pill each time as if it goes to ground all 3 are not the fastest or best ground ball players. Would need the smalls to be at their best.

Interesting that one can push an opponent into a contest at speed and head first, no problem, but get suspended for a weak jumper punch.

Riiiight...

I'm cranky!!

It's Tommo, not Thommo!! There is no 'h' in his name, so there is no justification for inserting it when shortening his name.

And he's been tried before in the ruck and up forward. Both were unmitigated failures. He's unlikely to turn that round at the age of 30!

And forget about McAdam coming into the side this week. He's not match fit.

And don't get me started on Jordon/Jordan!!!

I need to reduce the dosage of my angry pills.

Think you'll find the jumper presentation was more in regards to indigenous jumper and not a debut.

A Dees fbook site said there was a jumper presentation after training this morning. I guess Fullarton or Verrall.

Heard Fullerton injury cloud reckon it'd be Verrall, prefer him anyway Fullerton is a tall HFF not a 2nd ruck and lacks intensity.

I watched the Casey game versus Carlton, and to be honest, BBB (apart from some unusual poor goal kicking) and Laurie looked too good for VFL, but no-one else stood out as ready for an AFL call up.

No way did AMW, Tholstrup, Sestan or McAdam produce anything to stimulate interest, but each had moments that showed their wares at VFL level. I will give Tholstrup kudos for his 2nd efforts and intensity.

Jefferson did all the right things but has trampoline hands. Hopefully this fixes with development & experience.

As for the Carlton AFL game, I have been critical of Billings but he played a very very good 2nd half and finally started to hit (some) targets. Fritsch was weak and half-hearted in the first half but that is rare. Chandler looks proppy. Turner the only real one to drop.

At this early stage of the week, I would be bringing BBB in for JVR on the basis of injury rumour, Woewodin into the 22, Turner into the sub role (he can play forward or back).

Training report said that Disco has a 2-3 week ?calf problem.

Don’t watch enough Casey to know who comes in with Brown. Maybe go smaller in Perth and against the Saints.

Its not immaterial but the bigger concern is first use, rebounding quickly, and hitting up shorter targets around the 50.

Makes sense. Doubt Verrall has family in Melb.  Fullarton family in Qld and he's not an AFL debutant.

Darlings was probably a football action.

the push on the other hand was deliberate. The AFL needs to apply penalties on the outcome of each report.

then there is no perceived bias and each player knows if something happens what the result will be .

intentional or not.

Some problems there ie How do get the collingwood / Carlton  players off at finals time then? Where's the grey zone for the lawyers? Will never fly.

While I think that the Dees will win, the Sportsbet odds of $5.10 on WC seem 'over the odds' !! Particularly as the match is being played in Perth.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
