How can I enjoy a 7 goal win so little?

I was feeling the same but then I compared the game to 2013 and found some gratitude for the win.

I thought Max was best, Turner great, Windsor keeps on trying... but what was that first half..

Laurie made the most of his limited opportunities.

May and Lever absolutely sensational tonight. T-Mac did his bit and I really liked Rivers' game.

It is the defence that this team is built on

The first half was diabolical but I thought that might happen coming out of the bye. We overpowered them at the end and ended up winning comfortably. Max is a bloody legend, and I absolutely loved Disco Turner's efforts. I'm also surprised at whoever said above that Tmac should be dropped to put Petty back? Tmac was sensational and Petty has been really bad this season, we should have traded him last year for overs to Adelaide.

Awful game.

Play like that next week and we'll get smoked. Throw the highlights tape in the bin and move on.

the top end

Disco is a much-needed shot in the arm.

Lever & May, our “bickering couple”*, were immense.

Howes, like McVee last year, is coming along really well.

Max just generally plays a great game of footy. I don’t know how much he has left in him, but I miss him already.

The midrange

- Langdon, Pickett, Chandler, JVR, Frisch, Trac, Billings, Windsor, Woewodin and McVee all showed us the full spectrum of their potential. More lighter colours though, please.

the low end

- One of the poorest games I’ve seen from Sparrow. I back him, but he better be down on himself after that one.

- Can’t believe I’m saying this, but joining Tom down here is ANB, Viney and Oliver. But I know these guys will hate being down here, so I expect to see some frenetic redemption. Oliver clearly has the bigger hurdles though. I swear to god he’s carrying his hand in a strange manner.

- Rivers**, Petty & JVR, both MIA.

And a shout-out to Laurie, for bagging a couple of cheeky ones. Hard to gauge his overall form after such a short (but effective) stint.

I could be wrong about all of this because tonight’s been a bit of a tribute to Laphroig whiskey.

*the only bit of commentary I’ve chuckled at amongst a sea of brain-dead “quips”. The commentary was utterly disgraceful at the beginning of the 3rd quarter. BT and Bradshaw just waffling on one of their tangents-from-Aldi, and completely ignoring the play. They should be pulled up by the network for such slack amateurism.

**way too harsh on Riv.

- tmac out of the team

- Young Woey back to Casey

- Trac, Oliver,  Viney need a big week next week, playing well below par

why bring Brown back in?

he has had 9 touches total and 1 goal from the past two games

Was it really necessary to sign JVR for another FOUR years? Surely two would’ve been enough? Not saying he won’t make it, but seems a bit over the top for what he’s produced this year, another 5 years ahead, good luck to him

We should probably just put him on the market now and pick up a key forward from another team.

Taj looked like he was running on a treadmill in that 2nd half. Wonder if being sub every week has dented his fitness.

It’s so good to see Clarry so healthy and engaged. We don’t hear him talk a lot, I’ve noticed a lot more of it lately. And he’s been good. Love it ❤️

“if we play like this against the Cats…”

that talk is nonsense

each game is so different. Tigers tried to shut us down. Cats will back themselves

I’ll back us all day against the pussycats

Boys played like the ball was a cake of soap and the turnovers were atrocious.

If we play like that against Geelong and the blues we will get smashed.

Need a massive improvement to be a chance of winning the next 2 weeks.

Despite how bad we played we still won.

I also think Petty hasn’t quite looked like he has full confidence in his body since he has come back. The not invested narrative is emotional rubbish

Thought our second half was very good. Geez we're defending well at the moment. If we can defend like that against the Cats and the Blues I’m confident we can win. The wheel is going to turn for Petty I think and we really uncovered a gem with Disco.

Also, I’m pretty happy with my prediction pre-game if I don’t say so myself!

Hows all the 'supporters' hand wringing at half time like the world was ending. Turn off your phones in future.

Walked it in.

Valuable experience for a heap of the young guys infront of a big crowd.

No doubt room for improvement but bank the wins and keep working to get better

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
