I love the Demonland Podcast but Binman is wrong in thinking McVee had a stinker, 20 disposals including 6 marks and 14 kicks made McVee one of our better performers, his intercept, dummy and kick to Fritsch is the 3rd quarter shows the talent that is in the making. McVee is a veteran of 26 games, he made a few mistakes and he needs to tackle more.

Let's encourage McVee to take a few more risks, play further up the ground, be the quality distributor we need going into our 50.

Then we can talk about the smell of Victory.

Interesting. Certainly didn't play well but one game playing new role. Let's not hang him...

I thought his game was good. In time, higher up the ground we may get some highlights but I’d rather see him clamp down this week. Weightman to 5 touches and no goals would be a great scalp.
I’d rather him not be pressured to be a playmaker this early in his career. Keep the focus simple.

I thought he was bog ordinary and then saw his stats.  Tine to go to Spec Savers.

Then again I think I gave Tomlinson a vote - go figure.

The BT seems to have variable standards. They love JMcV Tommo not so much.

I thought he was ok.

Last year he had a poor patch & should have gone back to Casey but they stuck fat. Not sure that is a good strategy in the long run.

You’re not alone Jontee I thought Tomlinson was one of our best but he mustn’t have followed team plan or something that I didn’t detect on the night. Whereas I thought that McVee also played well for most of the night and did a number of great kicks, I may have given him votes.

Tomlinson played a solid and mistake free game, and was subsequently rewarded with yet another omission.

I'd have to re-watch the game as I too thought McVee had an ordinary game. 20 possession is a good outcome. Like Rivers, I haven't yet seen a quantum leap from 2023 into the first 2 praccy matches and round 0.

It is a bizarre decision, but i suppose its likely a matchup related one. I thought he would have definitely got the role on Rory Lobb (while May takes Naughton and Lever to JUH). But we will get our first look at TMac and Hore down back i think.

I thought he had a shocker, but that being said I was also surprised to see harmsey out there getting a few tidy touches.

@binman - Missed the pod, what's your perspective?

I thought McVee was fantastic.

Me too. What gives, boss? ( @binman)

It's like in Ready to Rumble when Jimmy King bursts out of the probable loo yelling "I ain't no damn bum!"

Love Judd's work but a word of advice from an old back pocket

KEEP YOUR FEET , CORRAL YOUR OPPONENT & PLAY THE PERCENTAGES.

He went for an extravagant spoil against Rioli on Saturday, missed & Rioli waltzed in for an easy goal.

He did the same thing against Carlton in the finals last year.

Too true. With his Rioli error, he stopped looking at the flight of the ball and looked a Rioli. If he had concentrated on the ball with a view to marking or punching it away, Rioli would not have goaled.

I love Judd McVee and I think they will work with him on improving his defensive game, which is already pretty strong for a 20 year old!

Going to be a great long term player for us.

Yeah, I don't get the disdain for him. He's already a solid player in an awkward role and growing into it steadily.

I have no idea why this thread exists. Why do we have a thread specifically for criticising one off plays from a 20 year old second year player who, on any measure, has been fantastic for his age and experience as part of a top 4 defence?

Judd’s a star.

Agree.. change it to a thread of praise, or shut it down.

Absolutely love Judd McVee and always happy when the ball is in his hands. Having said that, he needs to learn from the Carlton final and the Rioli goal. If he can’t take the opposition player with him, he can’t go to ground/past the ball in those contests. I’m sure he will learn from it for next time.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
