Don't see the point of just pushing Salem back if we've trained all pre season to have him spend time on ball, it's just back to same old again, try someone else at half back, maybe Hore.

Also re Max being blocked , shepherded, bumped off the ball pretty sure it's still in the rules that the ball has to be within 5 meters but of course just crickets from AFL commentators.

Not sure we trained all preaseason for him to play on the ball. I could be wrong but my read was this had been a thought bubble for some time but was only really activated once we lost Angus

Max or JV should go to the central umpire before the first bounce and (very politely) say we're going to count how many times Max get's bumped unnecessarily off the ball and give you the running score at the end of every quarter

Players are routinely niggled, retarded and interfered before and after they go for the ball.  The game has become anarchic, which is either exciting or a turn-off depending on your point of view.  The AFL could do worse in these circumstances than bring back Tom Wills' original laws of the game.

Not so in my book. Salo has been training in the middle with the intention of assisting our disposal. It was also in relation to possibility of Clarry not being available early doors.

To abandon our mids so early despite Gus and Bowsa is reverting backwards iMO.

I  worried who is going to play on JUH.

No one stands out to me maybe Marty first off the pack. And also Weightman.

That’s  why our mids need to be on their game and reduce the pressure on our defence which was under siege in the last quarter vs Sydney.

No read my other post Salo all summer majorly because of uncertainty of Clarry. Nothing to do with Angus at the start of pre season really.   He pulled out very late.

Kozzy in for Laurie

Petty/Fullarton in for Schache

Hore in for Bowey

I would like to see K Brown Dog in for Spargo but I don't think Goody will drop Spargo or make this many changes.

If Spargo isn't dropped and there should be a royal commision!

Don't get your hopes up.

If there wasn't a royal commission in to Goody's last two uses of the sub, I don't think you'll get one here.

I assume Billings will be dropped when selections go down.

Goodwin smartly started him as sub to boost his confidence last week, but Jack didn't repay the favour during his time on ground.

Salem has to go back to take Bowey's role. We need someone with elite kicking in the back 7. Oliver and Viney both take 80% of game time in the midfield, which leaves 140% of game time to be split across the other midfielders. Petracca, Sparrow, Pickett and Billings can easily take those minutes and Salem won't give us more than those four.

I am not sure who takes Schache's spot. TMac, Ben Brown and Fullerton are all upgrades but none are great options.

Laurie is a VFL standard player IMO. Small, average kick, slow, poor tackler and small hands.

Spargo also looks underdone.

My changes would be:

INS: TMac, Pickett, Billings (starting), Woewodin (sub)

OUTS: Spargo, Schache, Laurie

That was another Sub stuff up from Goody.
Spargs should not have played as he wasn’t ready yet.
Felt sorry for JB as he has had a good pre season only to be discarded to the Sub.

Hope he plays this week.

Yes.  I find that a bit bewildering.

Schache and Tomlinson dropped, Spargo and Bowey injured.

Pickett and Hore definite ins. B Brown, TMac, Kolt and Fullarton on bench.

INS – Pickett, Hore, McDonald, B.Brown, Fullarton, Tholstrup
OUTS – Bowey (inj.) Spargo (inj.), Schache (omitted), Tomlinson (omitted)

Agreed. Tomlinson was one of few that beat his direct opponent last week. I would love to know what is expected of him to get a game compared to some who can have limited impact for weeks on end and continue to get a run.

Goodwin is nuts.

It's clear Tomlinson is not in his plans. So why play him in the praccy games and round 1 instead of Hore, if he was going to get dropped almost regardless of how he plays.

He missed hitting all his KPI targets for the match: beat your opponent, stay in formation when we have the ball, provide pressure when we don't, and kick 8 goals.

BBB?

Are the selection committee being as desperate as supporters wanting a tall KPF for the sake of having a tall KPF?

Has BBB been on the training track?

I’m a bit baffled by the squad, but gee, I hope Tholstrup makes the 23.

Tommo out against one of the tallest forward line in the comp in perfect dry conditions…wut

Head scratching selections every week. I had hoped we learnt our lesson but apart from 21 Goody's usually got at least one selection each week that doesn't make sense. I mean 3 talls allowing lever to drop off his man and intercept is our best format in defence.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
