I am new born baby, never watch a football game before, and am unfamiliar about customs to do with this sport which I have followed since yesterday.

So when are the…

…teams announced?

Schache in for McDonald. 6 months later lol

Wow, Spargo in, go Charles. From all reports he was flying on the track prior to the achilles setback.

Sub choice? You'd think most likely Laurie or Chandler based on those bench selections.

If he doesn’t play this week, he will be hard pressed to get a look in with Pickett and McAdam coming back in the next few weeks.

I found Sparg’s inclusion a bit mystifying, but this early in the season, I have 100% confidence in our MC.

I’m pleasantly surprised Dof. I didn’t think he would get named after taking no part in the praccy matches.

I hope Salem plays in the middle. Bowey the only back replacement so maybe I am wrong. Have to watch their half forward line.

Woewodin is my tip for sub.

Assuming they have to announce 5 on the bench tonight with 1 eventual sub, I'd find it hard to believe that Brown or Tholstrupp will be one of those 5 considering the confirmed debut announcements from Monday.

Who else could be sub? Hunter and Spargo are injured. Adams hasn't been near contention.

Surely we're not going down the path of Verral or T Mac as a sub after what happened in the semi.

Spargo is available. So is BBB but neither have done the work in last month to be even a sub.
Woe or Pup Kynan could be Sub or from left field Fullarton but again no fanfare so not happening IMO.

smaller ground suits spargo.

looking forward to seeing his lazer accurate I50 deliveries

Spargo is currently sitting on 97 MFC games. Would love to see him bring up the at some stage this season.

Can't wait for tomorrow night! Go Dees!

I’m was surprised too, but in hindsight we’ve done it many times before.  They clearly rate the competitive match play during training sessions very highly as a way to decide a players readiness to return.

From what I understand, the sub this season is named from the Interchange selections.

Means Laurie or Chandler for sub, you’d think.

Chandler me thinks.  Bill's inside work on occasions last week was sublime.

I deleted the first post. Stupid question from QD.

Stupid question from QD.

Not sure about Spargo, Laurie, Bowey, Chandler all in the same line-up - Billings isn’t huge either so it looks a bit short to me. In an ideal world two of those go out for Kossie & McAdam but it’ll do for round 1.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
