When it’s all said and done we had 42 players ( or 2 short) with our list this season. Still don’t know why we couldn’t get a replacement for Gus.

And the treatment of Joel Smith ( no matter what he did) and the delay of nearly 12 months with him in limbo and is a player down  for the whole season ( and our Club forced to abandon him and accordingly be treated like a criminal ) is quite dehumanising and would in any other situation be a red flag alert for mental health issues.

His father Shaun our high marking forward of the 90’s is a case in point with football related issues affecting his life to the extent of marriage separation being a consequence as a result. 

why can’t there be a rule in drugs cases handled by WADA that you are allowed to continue your sport till it is ultimately proved you have broken the rules with your drug taking. It shouldn’t take that long ( I am aware that they are investigating some further alleged breaches to do with possible charges of approaching others to take drugs).

Then Trac and Clarry our 2 best onballers and champions laid low thorough fitness and side effects of injury for half a season. Plus Spargo out for 2024 playing only one game. 

2025 needs to be a whole new season and possibly a new updated game plan plus more 2021 attitudes and team bonding. 

The way he went about his football and involvement in MFC reflected the quality of the person.

That speech (without notes !!)cemented my thoughts exactly.  Well done Gus !!!!

Yes, an impressive human being, and a profound loss to the club and football if he can’t bring himself to be involved again

+1.  His loss was almost unbearable as he could fill any hole and play any style. Forever grateful for 2021.

Nah, the geometry of bricklaying is too much for that Neanderthal, far too much. He'd be a good deal better off with a broom and keeping the billy boiling for those who have talents.

I really think Trac might like others be missing the Gus effect within the Club. 

If so we must overcome this and redevelop our spirit and bond to assist our footy.

Let’s hope we are able to solve this over pre season and move on if this a factor of any consequence.

Good point, and I highly doubt it would have. Gus was loved amongst the playing group because of the strength of his character, and you know he would've been talking to Christian non-stop and keeping others apprised of the situation.

There is no doubt in my mind that Gus was the next captain of the club, and his speech saddens me to see. I can only imagine whatever he does next, be it in footy or out, he will perform extremely well

I haven't thought this right through yet, but I would very much like to see Melbourne and St Kilda develop an annual "blockbuster" style game highlighting mental health and concussion and celebrating the players who have been medically  retired in the past year. It should be called the Frawley-Brayshaw Game (or Brayshaw-Frawley Game) with a perpetual trophy of the same name awarded to the winning team. 

I didn’t watch any of the Brownlow as it’s become such a boring, drawn out event but watching that clip of our wonderful Gus make that speech bought tears to my eyes. What a wonderful young man. I sincerely hope he stays around the club in whatever capacity he feels he is up to. ❤️💙

 

I recently attended an event where Trent Rivers spoke and I’ve got to say he was outstandingly eloquent and extremely personable for such a young man.

i can see him following in the footsteps of Angus in the near  future, with captain material in obvious abundance, and a source of pride for all true Dees’ supporters.

One cut away to the Melbourne table focused on Max and he looked very emotional listening to one of his best mates reliving the pain of the last six months.

Like others here, I hope that if not heartfelt that Maynard now has a fleeting acknowledgment of the turmoil that is now Angus' life. I will always "boo" Maynard if only silently and my booing will encompass the Club he plays for and its supporter base. I feel that they are all culpable in some way given the way the supporter base cheered Maynard as Gus was stretchered off and no acknowledgment from either the player or the Club as to wretched end of Gus's career. I understand that there will never be that acknowledgment given the possibility of legal ramifications.  No matter, my disgust of this Club and its supporters only grows. 

Gus may have moved on but I haven't.

You could be right, however I still bristle with anger seeing Trac go all chummy chummy with the a-hole on Kings Birthday

Old school motto (something l have in common with Angus). We had a brief conversation once at Mararra about that. 

Sursum corda - lift up your hearts

Alter erara - in another land

Refers to another branch, original school was set up in the UK to educate young men who would later go to India to be employed in the East India Company during the colonial period. Angus post retirement from the AFL as referred to in his speech is now ‘in another land’.

Hear hear. Notice all the Collingwood filth still slamming Angus on social media after his heartfelt speech. I do believe that to be a Collingwood supporter you have to be diagnosed as a sociopath.

It  could be just the consquence of their cheering Maynard when Gus was laid out.  Having made one moral error, it is common to double down on it evenif you realise you were in the wrong.  Maybe they feel guilt in their heart of hearts and are trying to supress the emotion.   On the other hand, maybe they are sociopaths.
