It just makes sense. We gotta give it a go. Brown wont even be fit to play any games anyway. At least we get someone who is fit and playing alongside his bro could do wonders for him.

I have never seen Sam play but isn’t he an 18yo KPF who didn’t get drafted?

They take time. 2 or 3 years in our system  before they get a game seems to be the norm (assuming they are good enough). Doesn’t seem a wise LTI replacement for mine.

  • Demonland changed the title to Sam Van Rooyen in for Ben Brown on LTI?

This is a great idea if SVR has suddenly morphed into a mature age back up ruckmen.

I don't think we would even be having this discussion if Sam had a different surname.

Indeed. Forget his surname

is he good enough,   He might make JvR feel better in melb. But that is the only other consideration

Take emotion out of it and from a football perspective explain how it makes sense?

I’d say no, but I do think we would be monitoring Sam’s younger brother who could be the best of all 3 of them.

Only just back running after a full year out of footy, hopefully BVR gets some games under him this year

Of course Freo would already be speaking about it…

He is contracted till end of 2026 I believe. Would be Adelaide/ Petty all over again so I think we will look at JVR late in the year and extend again hopefully if all going well.

Really, they have Jai  Amiss long term who will be a gun and other holes to fill across the ground before getting tied up chasing JVR

The sheer fact that his brother is training with them is a big enough sign surely? Every club overlooked him in the draft and even rookie draft yet Freo are giving him a chance even though he’s probably not up to AFL standard? Where are Freo’s holes? Midfield is stacked, rucks are stacked and backline is strong. They would be drooling at the potential of a JVR/Amiss forward line, their forward line is their weakest point, there’s no partner for Amiss yet

They wouldn’t be able to afford Jackson, Darcy, Amiss and JVR. Would have to involve swapping Darcy for JVR, but let’s not worry about that.

They have the big Cohuna who’s not a bad 3rd option

Winding BBB up is an option, but I doubt we’d do it just now or for a kid.

We’d need to replace like for like with a mature tall

SVR worth tracking for a mid season pick if he doesn’t stick with Freo

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

A couple of intrepid Demonland Trackwatchers headed down to Gosch's Paddock for the midweek Preseason Training Session to bring you the following observations. Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
