holland has been referred to the tribunal to rough conduct, unnecessarily making conduct with johnsons face, but unbelievably johnson has got off. AFL saying there was not enough evidence or footage of the incident!!

My message to Ben is instigate but never retaliate. If you are going to retailate, wait!

Umpires and cameras always pick up the fallout of any incident so Ben will have to cop it. I still haven't seen footage so would be interested to know if this was the result of a wrestle?

I also believe this took place in the goal square which makes you wonder what the goal umpy was doing. In the days before video they had to make reports on incidents. If Johnson did head butt you would assume it was clearly visible?

You'd say Holland will get about 5 weeks for this one, going by the Jeff Farmer incident.

I'm actually not to fussed on this one, it could've been a much worse (as in better MFC) player to front.

it wouldn t be such a bad think , save us the problem of having to consider him for selection for the next 5 weeks

Holland won't get 5 weeks. He has a good record, so maybe 2-3 at the most.

I hope we challenge the outcome, regardless of what it is. He isn't a key play-maker, so we have nothing to lose if he doesn't get the sentence reduced.

I want to know whether West is going to be reprimanded for what he did to Godders behind play.

Ben Holland, Melbourne, has been charged with misconduct in that he made unnecessary and unreasonable contact to the face of Brad Johnson, Western Bulldogs, during the third quarter of the Round Seven match between Melbourne and the Western Bulldogs, played at Telstra Dome on Sunday May 13, 2007.

The incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points). The Match Review Panel referred the incident directly to the Tribunal for its determination as there is no set demerit points attributed to the offence. He has no applicable good or bad record.

Of course he doesn't.

What a friggin joke!

Godfrey is not the sort of player who goes down like a sack of potatoes, yet he was lying on the ground for a good minute while West ran as far away as possible.

I'm not saying he should be suspended for it, but at least a reprimand to let others know that smacking your tagger behind play is just not on!

I think the statement from the AFL umpires last week that ball players get preferential treatment probably extends to reporting. There seems to be no will by the AFL to charge these players and I remember a couple of incidents from seasons past that were just ignored, one a punch by Crawford on Godders and another by Judd on a Hawthorn player (I think) and Kerrs' punch to the jatz crackers of Mitchell.

No doubt the Taggers are doing their thing behind play as well but they need to be far more inconspicuous.

i saw the ben holland incident and while he didnt mean to eye gouge, he did so he has to go. it looks bad and its not something that should happen in the game.

RE the west incident, thats a joke. mclaren watched it happen. godfrey played west tight all day but he didnt hold or scrag him, he just played in front and tackled him as soon as he grabbed it. that was soft and cheap by west to hit someone behind the play, and ive lost an amazing amount of respect for him. west was beaten by a better player on the day, couldnt hurt us with the football and instead took a cheap and nasty shot off the ball.

i thought the afl insisted that a camera at each end of the ground captured the whole ground so that all incidents were caught on video?

Calm down Jaded, you are forgetting how hot it was on Sunday. Godfrey fainted. West was jogging away from him to get him a glass of water.

Also on the Dutchy case his defence is either the blood dripping into his eyes from the head butt he didn't get from Johnson disoriented him, ( he couldn't see what he was grabbing ), or the disgusting sledge he got from Johnson. We know that gets you off.

No I saw it Godfrey got cleaned up by a seagull, Kevin Sheedy will back me up on that the seagulls are tough at the dome. Some players ar just untouchable West and Johnson are two of them unless they do something in the main camera shot they won't get done. They aFL need the Dogs to play a role in the finals this year.

cant take a trick this year, and after the goodes case it thought harris might be investigated for elbowing holland in the back, it made a great sound and was surprised the goal umpire who it happend right in front of ( 1 meter at most) would have reported him

What a joke, I don't care if he's one of our players, eye gouging is so dirty and he should have at least got 3 weeks...

Firstly, he didn't eye gouge anyone. He wasn't even up on an eye-gouging charge. He was up on rough conduct, and making unnecessary contact with Johnson's face.

Secondly, Dutchy was bleeding at the time, so it was hardly an unprovoked attack. I wonder why Brad Johnson didn't even get charged, when Holland needed to be stitched up.

Also, since when has Dutchy ever been a dirty player?

You can't possibly compare the incident to the unprovoked attack by Farmer, who also has a terrible record.

Just say thank you that finally something has gone our way.

My defence worked. He got off because he said he couldn't see properly because of the blood dripping into his eyes.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
