I know a lot of people are disappointed with our flag being won in Perth rather than on the MCG, but the way we won it is undeniably much more satisfying than what Collingwood dished up this September. Fair play to them though, best team in it all year and there is clearly method to how they win so many close ones. Flat that they won today but not as flat as Geelong winning one and life still went on. No Zorko medal is a bonus.

They drop everyone behind the ball soak up pressure when the game gets tight and try to play on the counter attack.

Simple really he must watch alot of World Football old Craig Mcrae.

Don't care what arguments people put in front of me, if we get our hands on a Peak Power Forward who can jump and clunk marks inside 50 we are winning again.

No.1 Priority this trade period.

We f'd up last trade period with Grundy make it right this time brains trust and team him back up with Shaq dog and Hunts.

I hope this result burns in our guts.

We should have beaten the Pies in the first final. Not sure we would have beaten a spirited GWS but if we had our kicking boots on, maybe. And probably would have beaten a pretty effective but boring Lions outfit today.

The Pies are a good side obviously but I think we’re better, even without our forwards (as shown by some of our best missing terribly in that game).

Anyway, huge missed opportunity. Hope the boys know it and practice kicking over the summer, and maybe we pick up a new forward coach and think of some. We ideas to capitalise on the team.

Would love to be there in 2024 to win it at the G.

Our boys spent A LOT of time practicing goal kicking last summer. Brodie Grundy mentioned it on the Demonland podcast. Sadly, the pressure cauldron of finals football can’t be replicated and we just need to wait 12 months to hope it doesn’t happen again (assuming we’re good enough).

Well anyone who blames the AFL for our missed scoring opportunities is imbecilic. I cbf reading back through the thread so I’ll take your word for it that there are some people on here who are imbecilic.

Who's would be saying that WCW?

Its on the players for missing the opportunities created.

For mine, if it has died, it died the day Maynard got off. Everything changed that day and I’m just hoping the change isn’t irreversible. The AFL is the custodian of our beloved sport. How dare they cheapen it as they do.

Bitter truth, and after nearly 70 years of Demon disappointments at the hands of others, one feels rather inclined to adopt another passion.

Yeah I remember hearing that. It’s fair enough I guess, it is a cauldron. Sadly then it means we’re not good enough under pressure and that gives ammo to idiots who say our premiership is an asterisk. Don’t know how we practice goalkicking in those conditions but what I do know is that if we make finals next year, the pressure is going to be MORE, not less given our recent dual straight sets exit. So maybe goalkicking practice and some daily affirmations in the mirror. I’m at a loss, it’s all in the head it seems.

Good point. Every year a club wins that I hate, and the sun comes up tomorrow and I think to myself ‘right, what’s the club got planned for trades?’.

Collingwood the first team I can remember to just hang in there for the campaign and get it done. Usually 1 team had a great September and plays great footy in the finals to get it done. Collingwood not so much. A premiership is a premiership but a really forgettable one for the neutrals

I was thinking of moving back to Victoria after I heard Dan Andrews was gone but I think I might leave it a bit longer until the filth celebrations die down a bit.

This thread reminds me of the Game Day thread - a pervading negativity that makes it hard to read.

I just watched a fantastic game of footy with a big group of friends - desperately hoping the Pies would lose. Alas - they were genuinely too good.

Life is too short to harbour bitterness - we should be enjoying the fact that we have a team genuinely capable of winning a flag over the next 2-3 years.

I've spent my life focussing on the positives while our team have been awful. I want to keeo doing that while we are good.

I back Goodwin in, our fitness staff, our recruiters and our development coaches, and of course our players. We are three years running top 4, and have a Cup on the shelf.

Collingwood far from dominant scraping over the line in every game.

The luckiest least dominant side to win a flag in decades.

A happy Maynard just grates on me.

Take a look at the third quarter

Last quarter only marginally better

(put the scores out of your mind as that was the thing that kept it interesting)

I did. I was there. It was fantastic.

Put your MFC-disappointment and your hatred of Collingwood out of your mind.

The other issue is discipline. That can be fixed. Kozzie - don’t give away a free when Joel Smith is about to kick for goal. JVR - don’t stick out the elbow. If we had JVR against Carlton, we would have been better.

It’s been under an hour since they won. Perhaps you should expect and accept people venting. Sure, we’ll get up, dust ourselves off and get back in the saddle… in time. If we can’t come here to commiserate with one another then where else is there?

And this is coming from someone who is annoyingly positive and optimistic.

I found the game rather boring.  Anyone else feel the same?

Not sure I would have called that game boring, not sure I would  call it a great game either but it was pretty good.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
