Can he manage it? Is he getting supported. 2gger...and angry. Goody is not being sued. The former Pres is suing four of the current directors, although the events around the period end 2020/beginning 2021 seem to be relevant to the case. 1 Quote

AMW came on a bit towards the end of the season. Personally I rate Jefferson. It’s a huge jump in strength and lack of space playing against under 18’s to the VFL. He can mark and kick. I expect us to bring in experienced midfield depth to replace contest players Dunstan and Harmes, and to a lesser extent JJ. Did Dunstan play a game this year? Did Harmes play a good game this year? JJ was poor in loss against Blues, player 22-26 on our list. 1 Quote
Deemac 141 Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 I say yes we should trade Track and Oliver now try get 4 first round picks over the next 2 years and really start building hard 2 Quote
whatwhat say what 23,855 Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 hawthorn didn't even make finals after winning a premiership in 2008, and were in finals for the two years before that their next grand final wasn't til 2012, and then they won three in a row took scott 12 years between premierships at geelong, and that was after inheriting a list that had won two of the previous four premierships both these clubs had huge advantages in that they had the introduction of the two northern franchises accompanied with the introduction of free agency we won't have the advantages that either of those clubs had, but absolutely we should be contending for finals for a consistent period of time 2021-23 have been the three most successful years we've had since the norm smith era i fully agree if this group doesn't achieve another premiership it will have been a massive opportunity lost i expect us to compete for premierships some time to come they're not easy to win 8 2 1 Quote
manny100 1,625 Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 No way. We have plenty of gas in the tank. Plus a good chance of picking up a couple of guns in this draft. Kalani White to come in 2025. A gun UFR in 2024 with cash save on retirement of at least 2 of Brown, Tomlinson and TMc and Grundy off the list this year.. 1 Quote
DistrACTION Jackson 10,728 Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 I personally don't believe in 'premiership windows'. Everyone thought the cats were done 3-4 years in a row and they kept making top 4, grand finals in 2020 & 2022 and 1 flag. The only two players close to retirement of our best side are May & Gawn, both likely will have 2 seasons left. Free agency also means we can top up with players if we need and we can trade for needs as well. 8 of our semi final side are under 24, plus Petty and JVR didn't play who would have made it 10. 17 of the 22 from the semi are under 30 also. 2 1 1 Quote
dl4e 5,851 Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 I think 1 more year. Then Max and May will be well beyond their best. Those 2 are nearly impossible to replace. 1 1 Quote

I believe in premiership windows but I also believe they aren't always linear. They can be blown open or slammed shut at nearly any time. I'm almost certain that West Coast will be playing finals again within 2 years, easy to call them a basket case but they've made this sharp rise time and time again after unearthing some gems. 1 Quote
Chook 15,069 Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 I think we'll contend for the next 4-5 years but we haven't realistically been the best side in the comp since about round 10 last year. That's over a year and a half ago now. Something will need to change with the personelle on the field and gameplan-wise. I also think there are psychological issues with the side that will need fixing, and that will require a coaching panel rejig. Here's my plan: 1. Develop Petty + JVR into the best forwards they can be (coaching) 2. Trade/recruit a skilful winger who can go into the middle (recruitment) 3. Fix ball movement going inside 50 (coaching) 4. Stop panicking when games are close, which leads to poor conversion and inability to close games out (psychology/coaching) 5. Pray Gawn and May are able to prolong their careers for another 2-3 years, or else recruit replacements or alter the gameplan to de-emphasise the importance of those positions in our side. It's a lot to get right. And even if we do get it all right, we will also need your standard luck with injuries + good form at the right time of year that every flag side needs. 1 1 Quote
dees189227 12,512 Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 Do you know what I've finally realised. It's so typical of us Melbourne fans who have suffered through enough that yes we won a premiership 2 years ago but of course it would happen when some virus descends upon us that would be a one in a million thing that shuts down countries and states and we had to watch them in Perth. Sometimes I think we'll never get to see them on the G grand final day. 2 1 Quote

Ted Lasso 19,586 Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 No, i actually think our window is just opening. i know we will lose Max and May, but we added 6 guys to our regular best 22 this year who are all under 21, JVR is only going to get better, as are Rivers, Pickett and Petty if we nail these picks, and move out the contracted depth players we can be big players in free agency and stay at the pointy end for another 5-6 seasons 5 1 1 Quote

DEE fence 5,054 Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 Our era started 2017, we've had some disappointments, but as a rule, a well run club that has evolved several times. What has been consistently demonstrated is emotional maturity and a great work-ethic, no reason we can't be Geelong/Sydney like in being thereabouts, obviously some posters living in the past. 2 Quote

The issue is fuelled when we read about pile ons from the likes of click bait cornes and get sucked into his hyperbole. We are a story he loves which enables him to ignore Port power winning 13 straight. A record and Kenny gets re signed. Then out ingloriously without firing a shot. And they still have cornes favourite doctor etc... No comments. We are fixable . Just need to get it done. 2 1 Quote
