We aren't making a heap of changes.  We played three quarters and nearly won the game. Likely that Grundy or Brown come in for JVR and Jordon or Harmes for Gus and the one who misses out will take Laurie's sub spot.  It is possible if we play Carlton that Tomlinson might come in for McKay, in which case Hibbo or Salem comes out.

Why are people calling for Hibbo out? Kept Elliott quiet

It's JJ or Harmes for Brayshaw, think Laurie is a potential out also

Grundy In, Smith to Sub

Would like to see Tommo play, jist makes May/Lever combo function better

We have to play another tall defender next week. Both Carlton and Sydney have good key position talls.

If anyone should be dropped out of the backline to make way it’s Salem. Completely ineffective again. Hibbo was very very good on Elliot. He gives you everything.

JVR will probably go. That leaves Grundy or fresh air.
Gus will need to be replaced by JJ as he’s the most like for like. Harmes is a big no for me.
Laurie or Woewodin to sub. At this point it’s shuffling the deck chairs on our Titanic cursed forwardline.

What are our other options?

Agree. Love the bloke. He can play until he’s 40. He just tries his guts out.

JVR is definitely getting a week for that I reckon. Wonder if he knew it and it knocked him off his game? He was nonexistent.

Salem out and keep Hibbo? Need a third tall next week.

I am starting to entertain this change.

We need 3 kpd.

Salem to be forward. Been trash for weeks. Maybe try as Melksham type.

Salem fritch anb

Koz grundy Chandler.

I'm drunk.

That's quite obvious with your c..p selections.

Please go back drinking and don't embarrass yourself with such ridiculous selections with not an ounce of common sense or footy logic.

Between him and Grundy I reckon. May come down to which of them is less on the nose in the eyes of the match committee.  I'd go with Grundy as I think he'd have more of a crack and is a far better player, but as we've had drummed into us he's no forward, so creates structural issues. U

In a parallel universe we have Petty and Melk playing and we're in a Prelim right now.

Um you do realise his changes are pretty much forced changes?

Not sure if you paid any attention but Brayshaw will miss and JVR may also with a suspension. His

No need for the personal insults for giving a opinion.

Out: JVR, Brayshaw, Langdon, McDonald

In: Grundy, Tomlinson, Woewodin, Schache

Woewodin to the wing.

Not a fan of Schache but at least his turnaround game doesn't take him on a full orbit of the sun.

Grundy has to play. Coaching misstep not to play him last night.

Tomlinson fills the Brayshaw hole. Petracca floats forward way more.

Langdon was Hollywood last night and played like a schoolboy. He plays unaccountable football and I'm sick of it. Sidebottom schooled him every time.

I don’t get why people think JVR will get suspended that sort of clash happens dozens of times in a final like this - no malice , elbow not high, don’t think he even hit him directly in the head , no injury

Compare that with Maynard who according to some people has no case to answer

Strange

JVRs crime is being too inexperienced to make it look like an accidental footy act.

Bring it on. We'll be ready.

Petracca to play more forward and JJ to come in. If Roo gets week I'm backing Grundy unless BBB is 100%

I think it has to be Grundy too through lack of options. Schache doesn't have it in him and BBB is pretty much done.

His elbow seemed to clip his jaw on the replay. I'll be surprised if he doesn't get a week.

Elliott could have had 2-3 goals in the first quarter alone.  It wasn't until he injured his ankle (slowing him down) that Hibberd came close to quelling him. Plus his (Elliott's) supply dried up in the second half.

I was really surprised Elliot missed those shots they were absolute gimme's. We could have been down by a lot more at quarter time.

JJ for gus

Spargo for Lawrie

One of grundy, diesel or brown in for jvr

This, with Grundy.

Our best football is 3 tall backs (freeing up Lever to intercept).  When only playing 2, Lever can get out marked, even May might lose a couple.

3rd tall defender options are Turner, Smith, Thomo or Tmac. Petty is injured, Hibberd is not a tall.

I'd go with Smith as we need speed as well; the pies exposed our backs lack of pace and the other teams will have noticed.

If we get past next week, a likely match up with the lions will see Cameron twice as dangerous as Bobby Hill.

In - Grundy, Tomlinson, Jordon

Out - JVR (susp), Salem, Brayshaw, Laurie

Grundy to be a direct replacement for JVR. The Gawn/Grundy combo has partially worked in some of our early-mid season dry weather games. The very long range forecast has Friday night as a warm dry night.

Tomlinson as an obvious in for Harry McKay (sorry I’m convinced Carlton are winning tonight)

Salem dropped. Harsh call but he’s statistically a bottom 60 player and has played like that the last 2 weeks. What has happened to that class act who was good for 20 quality disposals a game?

JJ a direct replacement for Brayshaw, albeit certainly not an upgrade.

Laurie to again be sub, or worse dropped outright. What other sub options from we have? Spargo?

Or does Spargo replace Chandler, and Chandler is sub?

Agree with all that. I too have no idea who the sub should be. Woewodin? Maybe Spargo in for Chandler as sub as you say.
Unfortunately the forwardline will remain an issue and without JVR it will lack even more pack splitting power.

Salem definitely should be dropped. The game has well and truly passed him by unfortunately.

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
