I hope I’m wrong but there appeared to be a lack of chasing on a couple of occasions yesterday. Not a good look.

With Kosi, McAdam, Fritta, Chin, JvR, Fritta, Perry and (soon) Melksham we’ve got a veritable smorgasbord of talent, youth, experience and ability among our forwards.
As I’ve said elsewhere, I have my doubts that Stafford is up for the challenge to have them work as a team.

Exhibit A: Kosi and McAdam hopelessly flying for a speccy simultaneously.

I thought he kept trying even though he was gassed and looked like he was running through quicksand. Especially in the last quarter.

I also suspect injuries had him debut a week or two before the FD would have preferred. It'll be interesting to see how he goes post bye.

Sure, we need crumbers too. But the crumbers are useless if the ball is marked by the opposition.

It's a little like what KB used to say about tackling...no point if you've got the ball.

I think you are right in that it is an instruction.

They brought the ball down and into play a few times yesterday.

If they had of stayed on the ground it would have been an easy intercept.

I reckon he will come good after the break.

Another couple of games under his belt and block of training over the break and he'll be raring to go against Norf.

And he had better do so quickly - Melksham is due to return after the break, and if he gets fired up there will be intense competition for this position.

Rather than saying "they need to stay down and crumb" perhaps the direction is "launch and compete in the air to prevent intercept marking, and create a contested ground ball in our forward 50"?

I agree with this. The amount of time supporters complain about consistent behaviour from our players, without realising that we are a very experienced team. If it’s happening repeatedly it’s not an accident. It’s part of the plan.

He's had no preseason, I doubt they'd bring him in and drop him after a couple weeks. He'll get the Billings treatment and stay in for half a dozen + games before they make a call.

This was basically confirmed at the time. Goodwin was very clear that he was expected to play one more week at Casey, but Turner’s calf and Roo’s concussion against the Blues brought him in a week early.

This is definitely the case. Two weeks ago he was told he’d be debuting vs the Saints (yesterday’s match) but then on the Monday afternoon in the week leading up to the Eagles game, was told it would be that game. I think even he himself had some doubt as to his readiness.

Fly my pretties. People complain that the game is now boring and congested, then complain when players go for spectacular grabs - the same ones I show Aussie Rules newbies to catch their interest.

People tend to complain, I suppose.

Kozzie will take the greatest mark in the history of football at some stage, but probably when he is a bit older and slower. Like those Tiktok kids throwing ping-pong balls in cups, will it be diminished knowing he has made a thousand unrealistic attempts before?

I doubt it.

If Liam Ryan pulled in that one-hander last week, the footage would have gone around the world and been replayed a million times for generations to come. Kids would be screaming 'Ryan' in the schoolyard for the next 30 years anytime they got off the ground.

The speccy will probably be banned at some stage, before footy then ends up being  played on AI simulators. Enjoy the high-flying humans while you can. It's one of the unique elements which make our beloved game so special.

Guessing you haven’t watched his highlight reels then. Worth a look.

I have but there are reasons he's 28yo with only 50 games. Not writing him off but have very low expectations.

Not happy with the way kozzie is trying to look after him at every opportunity when there are better options

While I'm looking forward to the pair building up their zen connection in the years to come. What a champ Kozzie is in trying to bring other players into the game.

Underdone or not., I’m concerned by his application and a brief conversation I had with him on a match day whilst he was injured didn’t fill me with confidence. When asked whether he’d be out there soon, he responded “yeah I’ll be out there soon taking some speccies” - that seems to be his MO. We are team first. Not individual highlights. There are some examples of waxing between him and Kozzy too. Kozzy looks to pas to him when he isn’t the best option. City end example from the weekend. Several in the west coast match

Agree with all of this. But if he kicks 5 in a granny: Kick_it_To_McAdam will have to be your new username!

Did you stop to think why this may be?

When he played for Adelaide this is what was expected of him. He should be forgiven for thinking this is all he’s good for.

I talked to him about nicknames with a view to having a handheld banner made. I showed him a pic of a sign with him taking a huge mark (over the Dees, of all opponents 😅) which said “Up And At ‘Em McAdam!” He immediately said, “But that was when I was with the Crows.” The word “But” said it all. To me, anyways.

As for Kozzie looking to pass to Shane, I hazard a guess that sometime soon we’ll all be raving about how well the two of them work together. Tracc and Clarrie come to mind.

Please just give it time.

The Keakouer bros had a reputation for waxing. Worked pretty well for them.

The Kosimcadam bros - yeah, that’d work.

At every opportunity??? 🤔

You’re not happy with this. With respect, whether you like it or not matters not. I’m sure if Goody and Co. aren’t happy with it something will be done about it. We shall see, huh.

Yeah we can really do without the speccy tries every single time, looks dumb.

That was noticed as well, but i reasoned that they both have been told to keep it in the 50 at ground level, prevent the mark/ turnover and see what happens, and that was what occurred.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
