Great quarter so far! We'll take that.

We've dominated with so many forward 50 entries but just not connecting as we would like. That fine! That's the upside in the game that if we can just connect better we'll win.

Go dees!

Did I see Fritsch limping off towards the race then? 😬

Happy to be in front against an always-difficult opponent on a ground that is difficult to play on.

Sydney's contested marking is giving them some looks, and our fumbly ball handling is costing us at times.

We dominated that quarter.

It's not his ability to get the ball It's the decision making.

And his soley one-sided 30m maximum kicking distance

I thought Nathan Jones was commentating for the first 1.5 quarters, turns out it's Burgoyne

Same!

How is nobody seeing how wild these set ups are?
That we are still winning is insane.
Hunter in the centre bounce. I laughed so hard.

Thyroid issues can really kick one’s butt. I suspect that’s been the major cause of Salo’s problems this year.

Sure from A fitness point of view, but watching where he is running to or when he has ball in hand (over the last few weeks) has been so unlike himself. But you might be right.
tbh if it wasn’t Salem he would have been dropped a few weeks ago.

Very tight, pressured, squeezed kind of game with lots of pressured turnovers. Liking Turner. Full team defence looks strong. The SCG is so tiny it makes for a scrap, and most goals will come from mids and small forwards. Tidy our kicking, we win well.

Just making our thoughts plain. Sorry for differing from your opinion.

How do you rate his tackle pressure and disposal?

I rate his tackling and disposal on par with Langdon's and miles better than Jordon's.

FWIW, I fully endorse diversity of opinion but Hunter has randomly been a whipping boy on this site all year. Langdon had a long form slump in the first half of the season and he didn't get nearly as much criticism as Hunter does.

What? Surely they would talk about this on the coverage. Lord give me strength!!!

Very scrappy game but looks like it’s getting on dees terms that qtr, should break in our favour if we continue

The dislike for Hunter on this site is really embarrassing and cringe. He's been consistently good this year and will possibly finish in the top 5 in our best and fairest.

And by the way, he is a way better player than Jordon.

I totally agree, except for the bit where you used “cringe” as an adjective (and yes, I know, I know, but they’re wrong too).

First year at the club. People need to chill.

Our backline is just so much better with Tomlinson in there. He’s not superstar, but he plays his lockdown role well enough (88% one on one win rate, best at the club). He allows the rest of our backs to play to their strengths. It’s almost become comical now watching our defense turn to water when he’s dropped.

We’re just cruising today so fingers crossed for no injuries.

lib party preselection and no more commentary work for c7 will suit him

lmfao ...

Half time

Just not quite taking our chances inside 50

Gawn. Brayshaw. Fritsch.  Melksham (loved that mark and goal)

🤯🤯Salem.
🤯Kozzzy

🤔Turner some good and some not good

Strstegy - defensive…2 or 3 behind the ball and two down at stoppage but we’re winning clearances !!!

There is a scenario where we would play Sydney in a 1st Semi final if they play/beat Carlton and we lose to Collingwood (if GWS won today).

Sorry, that's the 20 year old in me

I’m liking the forward line setup. Not so much Rivo and Maysie taking shots for goal!

Does anyone else reckon Rivo looks like Adam Ant with his sunscreen?

Only if there is a quick whistle blown in time for the player to make a decision. If the umpire hasn’t blown the whistle for the first free, the player has no choice but to play on because no free has been paid yet.

Well at time we will agree to disagree because players just keep going.

Interesting call from Buddy to do a farewell at the SCG but not do anything at the Grand final.

I guess Sydney is his home now and he's played there for years. Nothing more to it?

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
