Just a reminder that Geelong had a 100pt win in round 23 in 2018 and then went goalless in the first qtr against us and lost their elimination final.

We also had a 10 goal victory in round 23 last year at the GABBA and then got rolled in the QF.

So take the Collingwood win with a grain of salt.

But also, in the last round of the 2011 season Geelong smashed Collingwood by nearly 100 and won the flag.

Will see how it goes.

Well, that sorts out one part of the puzzle, and an MCG final becomes more likely: now, the less-likely outcome of one of Brisbane or Port losing is required for it to be otherwise, if/when we win. If the really unlikely scenario occurs - that they both lose - we get a home final regardless of our result!

Saturday night's D'Land chat will be fun!

I know it comes up every year… but… how does he still have a job?!

Essendon are just really really really really really sure the issues are with poor coaching choices.

Now it's Brisbane's turn, they have to win their game.

Wow 3 goals Essendon. Great game for Friday night football.

And to think a couple of months ago they were 5th & the media actually bought up a potential top 4 finish.

Haven't Essendon fans had a great 2 weeks 😂

They have obviously run out of juice.

Will Collingwood play Jeremy Howe forward in finals ?

Care factor???????

Bombers 11 wins consisted of 4 against north and WC

still a rabble

7000 days without winning a final

Rutten was a better coach than Scott  at least the defence was tighter

loving it!!

Well, that was a damp squib last night. I hope the rest of the round isn't as dull.

Interesting to see how the Dogs respond tonight. Going into the Cattery at $1.55, a venue they haven’t been victorious at since 2003.

Hell be playing in our backline again and won't get much action.

That game was a dead rubber as Collingwood had already sewn up top spot and rested a couple. Still, it wasn’t an ideal lead in for them. I think us playing Sydney is a great lead in as they’re a high pressure side and will have a home final to play for.

Bashing your head into a brickwall type of fun I reckon.

Perversely my favourite match now is watching in Hope for the cats to get smashed at home tonight.

And a win against Hawks and only five interstate games excluding Gather round.

I still can't see how we lost that QF

You’d be happy then Goffy?

Very happy and I played it beautifully; switched off at half time.

I will give Geelong the benefit with all their injured players being legit but a win this week might have had them missing the eight by that goal to the swans last week. Would that have given them grounds to have a word to the AFL about more favours.

Hope the Dees really compete tomorrow and thrash Sydney in the dead rubber

Not the time to go easy We must make a statement and be a real contender

I'm guessing if you're an Essendon player you would not want to turn up day 1 of pre season unfit or not motivated

Jake Stringer, come on down!!!

I turned off the Pies v Bombers game before 1/4 time, and watched a B grade movie on Netflix instead. At least watching Gal Gadot strut across the screen was pleasing to the eye, as opposed to that basket case of a football match.

I have to admit though, that the game standard and result gave me delight in 2 ways:

  1. The Bombers look pathetic and miss finals again
  2. Pies supporters think their game plan will stack up in finals

Why Suns, if Roos win we could possibly do a deal with WC for 1?

It won’t happen of course.

I can’t see us getting pick 1, so want the Suns to finish above Freo to give us a better pick

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
