These I  think     far easier to pick who played poorly,   though I thought everyone was jogging in the first quarter.

No votes at all for Oliver and Trac. Both failed to make a contribution although Trac did exert himself in the last quarter.

Clarry was well beaten today. 6 possessions up until half time and 14 in total.  He battled on and tried but was well below average.  99 metres gained.  It’s ok to say he was below average (he’s aStar and we love him) .  McGuinness did a job on him and held him until moved off him onto Riv for the last quarter.

6) Rivers - our leading possession gatherer and is becoming a serious AFL player.

5) Lever - Playing his intercepting  best football. 13 marks is incredible impressive.

4) Viney - another brilliant hard working game. His disposal and decision making has dramatically improved.

3) Melksham - His presentation and marking up to the football was outstanding and he kept the scoreboard ticking throughout the day. He has that wild card vibe about him and needs to be in our finals team.

2) Brayshaw - Good midfielder’s performance. Is now a key fixture in our midfield.

1) ANB - was out of him or Sparrow for the last vote, but we’ll give it to ANB for his milestone. Having a dramatically improved 2023 compared to last year.

6, Rivers, a weapon off the HB line, great news as Salem's radar still not working as one would hope.

5, Lever 13 Marks, in great touch, and in a sign of how well our backline is functioning he was able to provide fwd. 50 defensive pressure, because they are such a unit.

4, Viney, the guy is Steve Austin, plays as if he has a stunt double doing the work, but no it is him every time doing the work.

3, Melksham, took Sicily out of the game who has been having a great run. Can forgive 4 straight misses ('cos we won).

2, ANB, 150 games busting a gut for the Red and Blue.

1, Brayshaw, team player par excellence

Sorry to May/Langdon/JVR (nearly gave May a vote for his 4th qtr mark, love that he is moving well, always scared about those hammies.

and Brayshaw, JvR, Langdon👍.

6.  Lever  -  outstanding intercepting game.  Possibly saved our bacon.

5.  Melksham  -  fantastic as a defensive and attacking forward.

4.  Rivers  -  fantastic again, and going from strength to strength.

3.  Neal-Bullen  -  anyone who criticises his disposal today is a ‘bum’.

2.  Brayshaw  - purely and simply a work-horse, and did almost everything right.

1.  Viney -  another ‘lead by example / heart & soul’ game from our VC

Apols:  Sparrow,  Langdon, McVee

@Dee Dee  I thought ANB was ok. 15 possessions.  Only 1 tackle. No goals. Had 2 golden chances with shots from 35 metres and both failed to make the distance.

6. Lever - solid throughout and controlled the game in the second half

5. Rivers - looked the only player who could run with the Hawks in the first half

4. Melk - poor finishing and some drop marks cost him but he was all over Sicily early and the best forward

3. ANB - crucial contest wins and some very good ball use. Didn't finish off his own shots but did enough other important work

2. McVee - held Breust to 2 (one from a shove in the back), won a number of vital contests when out numbered and had some lovely use too

1. JVR - solid and important in big moments

Gus, Viney, Langdon, Gawn unlucky but it wasn't a day for the mids

I thought he really gave the forward half the zap it needed after halftime.

His bullocking work when the ball was in dispute was first class.

Fair enough. It’s interesting how many thought it was him at an absolute ebb, but he can still find votes. Pretty great player, I guess.

Well beaten? The man has been out 10 weeks I thought he worked his way into it and was a STELLAR performer last one and a half quarters!😇

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
