I slept in, had 4 hours in the garden, followed by 4 hours to myself to do nothing but flick between Demonland and the live footy, fish 'n chips for dinner, and now a nice Heathcote region shiraz.

Feeling good.

And I got to watch some Bomber v Giants and see the final score.

The English language in all its beauty does not hold enough words to describe the jubilation of seeing the Bombers annihilated. I hate them more than Greta Thunberg hates petrol cars, plastic bags and rational thinking.

Long may they suffer and rot.

And now I am feeling very, very good.

Sounds like my day with Mrs RFS away. Except change fish and chips to Chinese and the Shiraz to a lovely Clare Valley Reisling.

Let's hope tomorrow holds as many pleasures with a good win!

It's actually a very old footy expression that was laughingly asked of a teammate (usually the full-forward) about how he'd prefer the footy to be delivered for a chest mark - laces in or laces out?

"Laces out" was preferred because it was easier to mark and didn't bruise the flesh.  It essentially means a perfect kick that hits the target exactly as planned.

is it really?? wow i figured it was a punter’s grid iron term only.

thanks for the info!

who needs this playoff for finals nonsense when the 13th team can still make finals in round 23?!

I have heard that now you mention it, but it's a myth spread by those who wish to discredit Lay Szout and his contribution to the game of futebahren..

Saw a tweet that said Albo should declare a public holiday when Essendon win a final 😂

More chance of a state holiday I think as Dan supports Essendon. Although he'd he'd need to win at least another three terms for it to happen.

If Geelong lose, next week will be only the second meaningless game they have played since 2006 (the last game of 20-5, when they were out of finals contention, is the only other one).

Remarkable.

Would love to see it happen.

Which game is going to be better to watch, Saints/Geelong or Adelaide/Sydney? Can't decide.

You think Albo is going to be PM longer than Menzies?

Unfortunately theyre playing Stkilda.

Going to be a real bunfight in R24 for the 5-8 scraps.

Nice vision of Hawkins getting his eel juice applied. Should be banned.

Yep. No gloves, no grippo, no oil. Like the ancient Greeks did it, but with more clothing.

I distinctly remember hearing the saying back in the 70's and it might have started then (or perhaps it goes back a long way)

So it's at least 50 years old and I reckon the connection relates to the leading full forward and those who passed to that player in that position

Got it in my wallet

Do you recall when it commenced?

*apologies - nor do I! - my point was - it was done in a context where they would have felt it was relevant - many seasons before the current seasons, thus no idea it was a 'tight' season.

Don’t apologise. I don’t know either! I tried to google it but I know it’s been a 2 year deal for the last few deals so I can assume it’s been made since we won the flag.

It’s apparently worth 600k a year. It’s a lot of money. I just absolutely hate it. We are the Melbourne side and I feel like everyone else gets precedence over our town. We should be doing everything we can to associate our club with Melbourne, and the MCG.

Anyways, will be interesting to see if it comes to an end, or if we still need to do it given we are debt free. 👍

I’m sure they’ll get a state funeral in their taxpayer funded stadium.

Carlton coming off two hard close games. GWS off a training run with Green rested in the last quarter. Good luck to Carlton.

Yes, same view.

Just really need Carlton to lose soon. This is getting out of hand

I would have never picked Dan as an Essendon supporter.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • PREGAME: St. Kilda

With just over two weeks until their opening match of the 2026 AFL Premiership season, the Demons are already well on the path to redemption and have the Saints firmly in their sights ahead of their mid-March clash at the MCG. What do you think the team will look like when they run out on to the G?

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.

The Dees ran another clinic for the second week in a row as they easily accounted for the Tigers in the lightning interrupted shortened match at Mars Stadium in Ballarat.
