It wasnt touched but we still should have been able to find a forward in the last two minutes. Great game but we were very poor at times.

The old bomb it long to a pack has recurred.  Can get away with it sometimes when Petty is there, but more importantly he leads and splits the defence.  Nobody seemed to eat and disperse the defenders tonight.

Like the non call on JVR for a trip? You’re right. Umpires had plenty of chances to not try and get Carlton a win.

Can't blame the ump

Agreed. It’s not their fault. What we should be doing is jumping up and down about the standard of all AFL umpiring full stop. It’s the AFL that fails the umpires and us all. No other professional sport is so consistently embarrassed by its adjudicating.

Salem has been poor recently. He had all the time in the world 45 meters out and fluffed it. His dinky kicks putting his teammates in trouble starting to get on my nerves as well.

Seriously if this was May touching this you'd all be lauding what a herculean effort it was.

You should apply for a job in The Ark because none of them could see fingers move.😁

What about the non free to JVR for a clear trip/ taking the legs out?

Do we need a review of that?

What?

People should be more filthy at this non decision then the Petracca incident.

He had his legs taken out and could have resulted in serious.

No it doesn’t. If it did, they would have said so in the review. You’re making stuff up. The call was ‘insufficient evidence’ to overturn the call.

"We weren't the better side?"

Pretty sure we were for 2.5 quarters. Equalled up nearly all stats after giving them a huge start - i50s ended up 53-48. More scoring shots and left plenty short as well.

Close game. Let them have their day, it happens. Very confident we reverse that result in September.

I think you should look at Clints post above Dazzle. Clearly doesn't touch it.

Agree it's not why we lost.

Yep that’s what I’m saying.
A disgraceful non call that would have been paid to Curnow every day of the week.
In a contest this tight and close, the umpires [censored] up not once but twice to ruin the match.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, If Melbourne folded tomorrow I would never watch AFL game. A pathetic amateur competition run by corrupt halfwits.

We lost because of one thing, garbage ball handling and disposal.

If we don’t bring in more ball skill we will suffer.

Who [censored] cares? If it's the wrong call it's not a score review issue it's a goal umpire issue. He called touched, there was insufficient evidence, meaning evidence needs to be sufficient and it wasn't. Screw what the memers on Twitter think, they are chumps.

We lost it because we weren't good enough when it mattered. That's it.

Macca our last hope.

No one in that forward line leads at the carrier.  They all run away or stay too deep with the exception of Smith but we started him as a defender lol.

Why are we STILL playing midgets at CHF!!???  What possible advantage does that give us.  It's been a massive fail all season but we still persist with it.  DUMB DUMB DUMB

As for the touched review.  Touched or not..... where was the side on shot that would've clearly shown whether it was touched !??  Apparently we're only allowed to view all the other inconclusive ones.

Some players aren't playing anywhere near the top of their game atm....

Namely Sparrow, ANB, Jordan & Salem.  Too many clangers and or fend offs when a quick dump kick forward in greasy conditions is the better option.  Salem could've redeemed himself with the gimme at the end but alas.

Our smalls & mediums didn't stand up either.

Kozzy needed some time in the middle later in the game.  We looked slow as a wet week at ground level with the likes of Jordon, Sparrow, Clarry, Viney & Gus in there and only one of them can be hidden in the sweeper role.

JVR disappointing tonight.  Needed to kick at least one of the relatively simple shots...no review needed!

I've already expressed my views re Grundy as a forward and in general over many months.  Nothing's changed after tonight.   Add's nothing to this team and robs us of either another genuine forward who can find the sticks or a classy outside mid runner/link up player around the stoppages.

Interesting how some see it differently. I though Sparrow was really good tonight, tough and provided an oulet, JVR ok too, competed in everything, only recall one bad miss, the other was a really tough angle. Disappointing for me tonight was Salem, and Bowey, who interestingly give us our drive of half back, which was sorely below par tonight

Yep Petty in makes Melksham dangerous. That last two minutes I don't think one forward made a lead.

I know everyone's talking about the score review, but what about Salem's miss minutes earlier? He should've slotted that with no issue.

Just take a timeout for a day DD.

Wet underfoot, high pressure, two teams playing great finals-style footy. A lot of the errors and misses can be understood thinking through all these things.

But the Blues outnumbered us around the ball and spread forward with ease far too often. Fair enough, they played better and were much cleaner with ball in hand.

But our forward construct = mediocre and problematic. In theory, I am a fan of the Gawn/Grundy du but tonight it showed we simply cannot proceed with it.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
