Someone who fits what we need in a FWD/Ruck is Jack Silvagni who is reported as "unlikely" to remain at the Blues.

He is also an Unrestricted FA and if we are to move grundy on I think he fits our needs as a 30% game time ruck who has shown he can kick a goal. What are the thoughts? Would he be too expensive?

IF Grundy goes, Jack would be perfect as an Unrestricted FA option.  Always liked him as a player. Would certainly be a better fwd/relief ruck option than we currently have. I prefer to keep Roo as a permanent forward. One question I have is, if he were called upon as a injury cover for Max mid/long term,  could he do it? I would think we'd still need a genuine first ruckman on our list.

How Carlton could let him go is beyond me. Third-generation of a unique Carlton family. He brings his heart and soul to playing for that club, and that is what his strength is. 
 

I'm not sure he could do that for another club.

That is true but he has done it for the Blues ok in the past, I think you just get a 2nd rate ruck that knows he will sit in the VFL but gives a chance to be competitive if brought in.

Love this idea!  Won't be $$ Carlton don't rate him, he would be very handy plug until hopefully a Jafferson develops

I imagine he doesn't want to leave Victoria and the thought of going to a contending team has to be appealing unless a team offers him overs on the contract.

It's contract length more than dollars is my guess

$425k approx x 3 would be sensible but someone will probably offer 4 years.

He’s an ok role player who always has a dip but he’s up against it when he concedes 10cm+ in the ruck and he’s unremarkable as a forward, although he does compete well on the deck.

He’d be replacing Melksham and could ruck if we had 2 key forwards who we want to keep away from the ruck. I’d probably try him filling in as a 3rd winger for back up minutes rather than as the back up ruck.

I’d have him for cheap but the priority is surely for a genuine tall (at one end of the other), and if we move Grundy then we need a spare proper ruck as well.

 

A positive would be getting him and get a hundred games into him so we can get the next generations of Silvagni's under father-son.

A fear would be for WCW and the Demon Army. Would he be too taxing on their already fatigued salivary glands?  There is a limit to how much one can drool before becoming dehydrated. 🙄

i just don't see what role he would fulfil for us

he's undersized as a ruck and he's not tall / strong enough to play as a true key forward

Given his family's connection and history with the CFC , I'm really surprised he would leave. But I guess you never know. Ablett junior left Geelong. I think recruiting an established somewhat mature player is a good idea but perhaps not Silvagni . Thanks Hawny for Gawny.

It's a concern that a few of our talls are having injuries and are towards the end of their career. Tmac and Bbb are the obvious ones. But May is getting on in years. We need to be very focused on recruitment of some young talent and maybe some established players circa 25 years of age. I,d argue we need two tall defenders and two tall forwards.

Yes, he is a part-time rucking alternative but can also be damaging up forward. That has diverse appeal, to me. Plus, he is agile, committed for the ball, relatively quick and evasive - thinking 'mobile forward' and 'dodger' - so, with great midfield feeders, he could be quite utilitarian for us.

 

Who do we need if Grundy wins the game for us on  Saturday??

Always performs ok when I've seen him play so yes.

He s player that will push himself for the team, been highlighted a few times on On The Couch, but isn't consistently been best 22 in the eyes of the blues.

I think Gawn would give him a run for his money in a sprint. He's a plodder. If we wanted to get a Luke Dunstan-style depth player, then OK, but I don't think SOS and Jo would travel that far to watch him play at Casey. I like that he has a decent crack.
