Given we have a KPI around forward half time, is it concerning our forward turnovers and overall game pressures are not where they need to be in order to achieve that KPI? More than half our score came from stoppages, which is hard to sustain during finals. Is our average AFL pressure rating (sometimes less) by design in order to stay fresh or a sign of fatigue / complacency?

You just snuck in.

The Blues turnaround in form coincided with them losing McKay and it was to the benefit of Charlie Curnow who has been sensational and will probably take out another Coleman Medal. I think our defence can account for Curnow or at least keep him to only a couple of goals and not let him run rampant. What I am more concerned about is their small forwards who have been having a little purple path during their run of 7 wins. Motlop, Martin and Owies have all hit the scoreboard in recent weeks Motlop 10, Martin 8 & Owies 7. As we are all too aware we are at our most vulnerable once the ball hits the deck in defence and I am very worried about this mosquito fleet. Who takes who?

Sorry didn't see this but I'm sure you'll be all over it.

Sorry I was meaning to post this earlier but work commitments got in the way so if it's not too late ...

Looking at Carlton's injury list they have half their midfield out for this match.

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 Jordan Boyd  Suspension  Round 22
 Adam Cerra  Hamstring  2-3 weeks
 Corey Durdin  Shoulder  Test
 Matthew Kennedy  Knee  3-5 weeks
 Harry McKay  Knee  4-6 weeks
 Alex Mirkov  Heart  Season
 Sam Philp  Foot  Season
 Jack Silvagni  Knee  TBC
 Sam Walsh  Hamstring  1-2 weeks
 Zac Williams   Knee  Season

Updated: August 1, 2023

Walsh, Cerra and Kennedy are 3/4 of their engine room. With those outs how can they possibly match it with our midfield especially if Clarry is back.

Thanks for the podcast guys. It is truly the highlight of my footy week after a win.

You're killing me here but a poignant question nonetheless

One of my Carlton mates reckons the Blues are in the kind of form that makes this week's match a Litmus test for whether the Dees will win the flag. I feel like this is a bit of a moot point. What do you guys make of his claim?

I'm happy to answer this one.

Tell him he's a nuffy.

Look at the stats. Harmesey was in the Dees' top 10.

Well that just goes to show that stats can mean very little.

40% or stats mean something and the other 80% don’t. 🙄

Another excellent podcast as always!

Well done Andy, George and Binman.

Thank you for everything that you do! 😎👍🏻

Another first rate podcast, gentlemen. Thanks @binman @george_on_the_outer and @Demonland

In my view, the phone-in callers add little to the podcast. If anything, they make it more difficult for you to keep to the structure. Would you like to consider dropping that facility and only handling the questions /comments presented on the Demonland forum? Then you could cluster similar questions and refer to them at the appropriate time. Just my thoughts. Cheers.

That take our members up to 3 you, me and my son.

By the by Andy, I spoke with Fifa and they have moved the Tilly's  quater final from Monday night to Saturday arvo, so i can watch it live.

Good of them I thought.

Funny story - they initially said how bought sat night binman?.

No, no  no I said. That won't work.

But if you could make it 5pm, that would be perfect coz i can watch it at fed square before heading to the G to see the mighty dees demolish the blues. At first they were confused, thinking I meant France. And Denmark were already out.

But we got there in the end.

By the by, I have it on good authority (straight from the rabbit's mouth in fact) that yes, he likes the nick name Nibbler, but prefers it to be pronounced Nibbla.

Thanks for the feedback but I love hearing from other Demonlanders. Without taking calls we never would have discovered Binman.

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
