GAMEDAY: Rd 20 vs Richmond

Demonland

Recommended Posts

The Demons face a fired up Richmond Tigers who are playing for a position in the Top 8 whilst we have another opportunity to consolidate our own position by retaining our 2 game buffer within the Top 4 and as a result of some favourable outcomes in other matches there is the possibility of us sneaking into third place on the ladder. Carpe Diem!

Great wicket by Hazelwood just then…

What a way to start off the game day thread with the Aussies up and about!

Poms have been giving us another lesson today though?? I need your optimism for both codes. We have a door open here & need to finally control a game - but will take Ashes 2-2 & todays game by a point please.

A slight worry is the late afternoon rain; otherwise I’d be confident we’ll beat Richmond by 5-15 points. Go Dees!

From a new article: ”Statistics show Carlton are ranked 5th in the AFL for scores against per entry and 6th for inside 50s against. Remarkably, 15 of the last 18 premiership winners have ranked in the top six for both of those categories–and the only other club currently joining the Blues in the top six for both is Melbourne.”

On Richmond, here is one of my good memories: One year, there was one game between Richmond and another team in MCG, the scores were tight. With only 5 minutes left and Richmond behind, forwarder Nathan Brown ran back to help their back line—how sweet he was. He managed to take a mark 50 meters out and swiftly kicked a beautiful long-distance goal. He raised his arms, beaming with a smile…  then he stopped: “How come no teammate is running towards me? How come they put their heads down? Holy sh*t, I kicked an own goal!”

I love Tigerland, keep your good work, Tigers, you are the best!

First time we’ve played Richmond in an away game that isn’t Anzac Eve since 2014. We won that 2014 game.

2019

We lost that game.

Tiges are always difficult to beat so we'll need to be on our game to win.

Perfect world (and in keeping with the perfect weekend so far) Petty will kick 5 goals.

Our leaders Max, Trac and Viney will drive us on to victory.

Dees by 20 points

Go Dees.

Not another close one please.

We should do a game day thread from all the different places we are watching.

Ps you win

Get the job done today.

If it's not pretty footy then I'm happy with that.

We win today and we're pretty much level pegging with the Lions and Port for 2nd or 3rd spot.

That 2019 was a home game (was thinking we never play Richmond in an away game that isn’t Anzac Eve) but goes to show we hardly ever play Richmond twice in a season because of Anzac eve, and very unusual to play them this late in the season.

Hoping for a good professional win and Petty answers some questions up forward.

Port have Geelong and Freo away and GWS at home and Tigers in the last round.

Lions have Freo and Coll away and Adel at home and Saints in the last round.

The first three for both are tough wins against teams that have either a reason to win or no reason to lose.

We have Tigers, Carl, and Haw at the G NM in Tassie and then Syd in Syd in last round.

Win today and you are ‘one more win heading home’ than these two away from 2nd…

I'll try not to complain about Goody's selections again after the cricket selections in the Ashes this year.

Does anybody know where the Dees supporters can sit today? I have a h&a membership and do you know if you can upgrade your tkt for the day?

Go to Rich v Melbourne on Ticketek, select "Club Members and Public Reserve" and enter your barcode where indicated".

Worked for me on Sunday I got a reserved ticket on level 1 on the wing. It may be too late now but worth a try. Heres the link: https://premier.ticketek.com.au/shows/Show.aspx?sh=RICHM2023

My MFCSS is running rampant, especially given rain forecast.
Please Dees, don’t join the crazy list of upsets this weekend. This is a golden opportunity ………. grasp it with both hands!

People are referring to the fact that the results in the games played so far in this round have been upset games but Richmond are on a bit of a run having won 6 out of their last 7 games which is a better run that we’ve had in that time.

So in reality, it’s us who have our backs against the wall and on that basis, I believe we’ll follow the trend of the round by upsetting the Tigers.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
