Can’t remember a player ever missing with a blister - infected or not.

And a hamstring

Blisters are painful, imagine having an infected one then running on it the way they do!

Give him the rest so he is cherry ripe for 2nd half of the year...

Jab it! The pain can be withheld for a few hours...

We have a bye next week

By blister is it a sun blister or one from a splinter. I'm hoping Maxy hasn't had Clarry in the shop making furniture to keep him busy while he rehabs his hamstring. What a disaster if true.

Anyone heard of blister skins / tape. They are extremely effective once the infection has cleared, which hopefully is 1-2 days. He’ll be fine to train on Friday.

anyone know what the issue with Hibbo was?  marked as injured but maybe more of a old man managed for a week?

we need him back this week

Hibbo has Achille soreness & will be “managed” all season…

If it's purely the blister that's infected he'll probably be right to train later in the week and likely to play, if things are improving over the next couple of days.

If there's cellulitis they'd be wise to get that fully under control which would put him in more doubt.

I had an infected blister on my foot decades ago from bushwalking. It wasn't pleasant but fortunately occurred with only one morning to walk out. I certainly couldn't wear a shoe or sock and there wasn't much weight bearing. It felt like it had gone into the bone. I suspect Clarry has received the Rolls Royce of medical treatment though and wasn't wandering around in the middle of nowhere in Tassie.

Put methylated spirits on it , will dry out very quickly and he will be right to go. I used this method on a white tail spider bite back in march and cleared it up in a couple of days.

Hibbo was doing the full running program with everyone else. Though, a little bit behind some of the others. He and Lever were gasping, so was Tracc (who may have been "bunging" it on). A couple of the young ones dropped out, as well as Fritta (I think), close to the end.

@kev martin thanks for your report!

Do you think this implies we were pushing the fitness work a bit harder than a usual mid week session?

Yes, though I haven’t seen any main session this season, but last time I saw a main session the focus was more on sims and execution of structures and processes. Could be because of the long break and they can push them, without game day fatigue. They were working them very hard.

A few looked like they needed it, given some gasping, slouching and drop outs. Also appeared not like it too much, they went quiet and resigned to getting through it. Thought it was useful bonding being all in it together, and the congratulations and support they showed to each other after completion. The trainer (Selwyn) didn't inform them of how many sprints they were doing, showing lots of trust of him by them. Ended up going at about 3 sets, each 6×150 meters under 20 sec, with a 10 sec break between runs. The players had groupings that ran to various distanced coloured cones. There was also another set of sprints in between drills and some laps as a warm before drills.

Sounds like Binman is on the money!

MacDonald - Ankle surgery and now '6 to 8'. Maybe a farewell via a 2023 VFL premiership?

Hibberd - Managing for 'back end of the season'

Oliver - Expected full training tomorrow

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
