Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Hard to believe you missed the 2021 Grand Final Jimmy.

Dominant Grand Final performance. Clearly had enormous influence on the game.

I still wouldn't call him a match winner to date.

Super lucky to have him and Oliver for what they give our midfield.

But they'd also be up there with the two sloppiest elite mids within the AFL, as far as ball use goes.

Martin at the height of his powers was hugely sloppy with his ball use. Dangerfield too. Judd wasn't great either.

When we needed someone to stand up in that Richmond game in 2021, it was Trac that did it and kicked the winning goal.

When we needed someone to ice the game in the qualifying final against Brisbane in the wet at Adelaide Oval, it was Trac that did it and kicked that goal from the boundary.

He wins games for us all the time, including winning a Norm Smith.

There aren't many match winners out there if Trac isn't considered one.

The funny thing is if he was a Collingwood player, I'm sure you'd be saying the opposite.

You have these bizarrely inverted / anti-Melbourne glasses you like to wear.

Do you need a hug?

Unfortunately he’s no JV7.  He needs lots more protein shakes and about 5 years in the gym.  Different type of player.  He might ultimately be more of a small defensive type (back pocket) than an onballer.  Don’t expect him to be a Nick Daicos “gift from the gods” for us.

I agree, said similarly to dad the other day, he just doesn't seem to be a super contested type yes he was near contests but he isn't winning first hands at all hes just moving through i was actually more impressed by his run and kicking and thought small back would be more suitable

But the reality is North have a future midfield of LDU, Simpkin, Thomas, Phillips, Powell, Sheezel and Wardlaw.

The idea that a side that stacked with young talent needs a priority pick is laughable.

The best thing we ever did was stop asking for assistance and start trading out of high picks or future picks and let the competition know we aren't going to be rubbish any more. If North want more talent they can trade a future first and get it that way

I disagree that their list is anywhere near where it should be and would even go as far as saying they will get worse next year. Just because WCE have been so awful everyone assumes NM are more than a year into their rebuild.

Ziebell, Hall, Greenwood, Cunnington, Goldstein, Shiels, Turner, Howe have combined for far more games than they should've imo, they need a hawthorn esque transition or they'll be nowhere. I also think Simpkin is extremely overrated so we'll see how they progress

Its a hard call for sure, but im starting to think that using two picks for Reid - particularly when it could be GCS first pick (#5) and Freos fist pick (#6) - may not be the smartest move. McKercher is exactly the type of player we need. Has speed, great kick, inside / outside balance. Then you could potentially take a Duursma, Curtain or O'Sullivan with our 2nd pick and Brown as F/S.

I'd be steering well clear of Curtain, yes he could be Bont/Cripps or he could be Lukosius but for me a player who doesnt have a settled position ends up with no position. Ask Jarrod Brander or Nik Cox who are toillers because are they building their frames to play in a key post or are they staying lean to be a mid but in the end they do half of both and don't progress and get moved on

Who ever we take with Freo's (or should our) first AFL Draft pick needs to be an elite kick and elite talent.

Elite kicking and elite decision making you can never have too much of in an AFL team. The Melbourne Demons still needs to remedy these deficiencies. Particularly with our connection into the forwardline.

Harley Reid would be ideal. But there's no way he lasts past pick 2 or 3. North Melbourne and Hawthorn would definitely snap him up if West Coast didn't.

I am also concerned about the risk of taking Tasmanian pair Colby McKercer (who is very impressive) and Ryley Sanders. Primarily due to the impending introduction of a Tasmanian AFL team. But that is to be expected.

My possible future draftees for the Demons would be one of Nate Caddy (Northern Knights), Zane Duursma (Gippsland Power), Nick "The Wizard" Watson (Eastern Ranges) and Darcy Wilson (Murray Bushrangers).

Anyway, no point speculating too much until the end of the season. There's plenty of time to worry about the 2023 AFL Draft in October onward.

i wouldn't be so concerned.  it is a least 5 years away and besides taswegians don't have a big go-home factor.

It’s something of an anticlimax (because the undefeated Allies have already taken the title) but the finale of the championships takes place in a few hour’s time at  IKON Park (game starts at 10:35).

Last year’s match up was an exciting game and it showcased many of the eventual top ten draft picks. There will be some good ones on display today as well, including our very own father/son prospect Kynan Brown.

The game will be televised live on Foxtel.

Ryley Sanders of the Sandringham Dragons and who played for the Allies is the Larke Medalist (series b & f) - would be a handy draftee, notwithstanding he’s a Tasmanian and would be a candidate for the Tassie Tigers when they enter the AFL. Another Tasmanian, Colby McKercher was runner up.

I tend to agree. I could live with them all going home to Tassie towards the twilight of their career as they would have seen the Suns and GWS experiment will not be a fun experience to be had when they are in the peak of their career.

Either one of the Tassie kids will do us just fine. Hopefully we can move up into the Top 10 to get another zippy HB with great kicking skills or snare a KPD.

The AFL have said the Tasmanian team must be competitive year one, they'll make sure they go back to Tassie year one 2028, year 5 with us, just when we've done all the development.

North Melbourne making a move to have Sanders included in its NGA and for an exemption to the rule preventing Victorian clubs from bidding for top 40 players as a concession from the AFL.

As if the draft wasn’t already heavily compromised!

Kynan finished the game with 20 disposals 7 tackles and 5 clearences.

I only watched bits of the first half. Anyone know how he went for the rest of the game?

Kynan is not blessed with physical dimensions.  He is super light as you know. Probably 65 kgs at max inv. Needs lots of protein shakes.  He’s a scrapper. Socks down. Huge heart. HUGE. Runs and runs.  You can’t buy tenacity. He’s a goer.  Like his dad, he’s a soldier in style.  Disposal is occasionally very scrappy.  He hit a few targets but also missed some. He cracks in for tackling and loved his attack in the 4th quarter with back to back second efforts.  But he would struggle when confronted by the physical nature of the AFL and will need 2-3 years in the gym. How to describe him? Maybe a cross between Liberatore and Damien Oliver.  Late draft pick 60+ or rookie pickup imv.

based on what i saw his defensive workrate was one of the best for vic metro, and his i50 kicks were to the advantage of the leading forward

he didn't look as small as he did in the highlights video previously shared - i don't think he'll ever 'fill out' but his body shape reminded me a bit of dean laidley

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
