And to all the previous posters who said he was no hope …maybe you can understand why more “positive “ posters get so sick of the negativity. Well deserved JVR ..

And it's the same posters with their Eeyore stuff in every thread. Must be fun at parties.

Much more pleasing than Rising Star this week was Roo's up the ground movement. Lot to like about his solid play yesterday moving in and out of congestion..

Being mobile upfield makes a forward a target, maximises opportunities, draws out defenders and hopefully leads them for dead, exploits space or double-back-across, particularly if they are quick, agile, strong, can mark, can kick a mile and is accurate over 55m out. JVR has got all of these attributes. Plus, he's a team player and man. He can only improve. Congratulations JVR, rising star is a very good marque to reach, so early.

Magnificent recruitment and development from the club. Pick 19 is a steal.

Jacob looks a great prospect. And critically he has that insane will to compete and win. That celebration after his goal was so good.  He wants this bad and he is as tough as nails.

Watch Collingwood try to "ginger up" the new boy. I think he has a bit of the Neil Balmes about him...

I really liked the look of JVR on Friday night he has footy nous and steely determination  great teamwork and kicks goals and he really earnt this nomination. Well done young man, so glad we didn’t rush him last year it has paid off in spades. Looking forward to a long career in the Red and Blue.!!!!

Well done to the young bloke!

Showed real maturity in the game last Friday evening.  Cool and calculated and is really coming on

Would love to see him play CHF and further afield (when applicable) as he has play-making attributes

He's not just a goal kicking KPF

These clowns are the only bad thing about the site in reality. We have a club that won a flag 2 years ago, has the best 3 players of the last 30 years in the team, and has a crack every week. I enjoy this footy parallel universe to the previous 50 years and the incessant negativity / baiting is moronic, low brow and juvenile. Always the same posters and I have neither the will nor inclination to engage but it is almost always a frustration.

JVR has bit of the early years Petracca strut about him.  Love it! Also love that he is wearing the #2. Will do it proud

Maybe you should practice what you preach then. Greatest hypocrisy I have read on this site.

Rising Star indeed! Where others struggled for accuracy, young fella stepped up to the mark and showed how it is done. Beyond which was an impressive four quarter performance.

Well Done Rooey! Another feather in JTs cap.

McVee is silky smooth, but it’s hard for him to to impose himself on the game playing shut down roles in the back pocket.

Congrats to the young man. Didn't think he was going to get it, but very pleased for him.

Hope he has a day out against the Pies

End of 2005 I think

Born 16/04/2003 - amazing foresight by our recruiting team in signing up a 2 year old.

I think Drysdale meant that he was signed until 2025.!!

  • Whispering_Jack changed the title to JvR is the Round 12 Rising Star …

Going early but I think we might have one this week.

Just can’t decide if it’s going to be Judd McVee or Jacob van Rooyen.

One of them will win Best First Year Player at our AGM, but which one?

Right now, my money is on Judd. Less spectacular and less noticeable but consistently effective and brings a line breaking attribute we lack.

What do they get for a nomination these days?

It used to be a big telly.

Remember on the Sunday Footy Show when participants in Lou's Handball used to get a Telefunken DVD recorder? I remember thinking how much I'd have loved one of those.

Needless to say all these machines are probably laying in a tip somewhere..

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Collingwood

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
