Didn't mind what I saw from Smith. Clearly needs to get more of the ball but played with more aggression than I thought he was capable of. Made Carlton earn a few hard balls.

It will be good for our players to see a ruthless team in Collingwood up close next week.

They should learn a lot.

Famous words by our premiership coach..

 Learnings... 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

I’ll start with the 4 points. Great.

But was that the worst game that has ever been played??

We need to do something pretty drastic very quickly. Very worried for next week.

How far are we from 2021??

Judd McVee fantastic.

JVR best game.

Bowey playing his best game of the season when hurt. Very disappointing.

Langdon best game also.

A win was all I wanted after the past two weeks. We were wasteful up forward but the reality is that we dominated general play and Carlton were lucky to be that close all game.

Salem had his best game since 2021. Our backline looks so much better when he plays like that. It was good to see Langdon regain some form too.

A win is a win is a win. Made heavy weather of it but don’t care. It was all about the 4 points tonight. I’ll worry about the pies tomorrow.

Feels like a loss, I think we played better football in 2018.

God I hope Petty is back next week.

Good to see JVR play well considering our forward line is bog atm.

Gawn: “It was a good game.”

Petracca: “Carlton are a great side.”

Gawn and Trac apparently made a bet for who could tell the most boldfaced lie in their post match.

Let us never speak of that game again.

Almost as bad as the Essendon and Freo games, but at least 4 points.

Need a massive lift up against Collingwood.

Even though it was ugly I thought we did a few things right. Backline rendered the Blue bums twin towers useless and McKay wasn't that great.

Really good game from our perspective. Got that solidity behind the ball back. Really good signs.

Contested possession +148.

inside 50s +20.

clearances +9.

Smashed them all over the ground. I don’t know what most people want from the team. Without looking, I assume it’s just groupthink from the Gameday thread.

You’re right the stats were favorable.
The ball use especially forward of centre is what was just really hard to watch. I don’t know if we are tired, or got dragged down to their level, but a better side would really hurt us on turnovers.

We were lucky they were equally as poor.

You take the 4 points and you move on. Because last week I think we were better and we lost, so you gotta take the wins even when they’re ugly.

I’m sure the mood in this thread will soon resemble a funeral but I’m personally happy enough to win ugly.
Tomlinson was ordinary to poor tonight but Lever looked as good as he has in a long time. I’d keep Tommo in until Petty is good to go after the bye.

We’ve survived the no-Oliver apocalypse and we just need to beat Collingwood to pump some adrenaline back in our season. Tough ask, but stranger things have happened.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
