I'd like to see JVR throw his body into the contest instead of running under the ball and becoming a witches hat. Crash the pack, hit a Port player fairly but hard, have an influence on the contest and the game. If he can crash a few Port players off their feet, it suddenly becomes easier for our crumbers to gather the ball and move on.

Get involved, ffs!

We have far bigger problems than a 6 game kid.

Regardless of what happens tonight, the side is not united like we were in 2021. We’ve gone back to being a team of individuals and it’s painful to watch.

I’m not convinced that winning post clearance is a method we should adopt (thanks Yze) as we don’t have the footskills going back the other way when we play the top teams

Get a new midfield coach please.

Thanks for your time Yze, but it's utter disbelief that we can have an elite midfield/ ruckman combination and get absolutely slaughtered 11-0 clearences their way in that quarter.

definitely worth a discussion mid week

this is where we have elite players... not just good ones ... but we are being continually beaten

We need to pull our finger out and get aggressive and on the attack with plenty of back up run!

Yeah but what is he doing with his possessions? I could kick it out to nobody or handball it over my head

'Bogged down Clarry' seems to have lost his leg drive out of congestion this season.  After quarter time or so anyway.

Might be why he's back to the dinky panic short handballs and lollipop kicks selling us into trouble quite often and giving the oppo plenty of nice looks.

Good dominant Clarry gets on his bike and works his way out of congestion a little before either finding a receiver by hand or kicking long towards targets.

He's still getting from contest to contest but the other 'running/leg drive' bit is missing after the first quarter or so.

He's also lost any zip at middle bounces and not really giving us much at 666 of late.

This leaves too much to too little... usually Max, Viney & Tracc.

Tmac had 2 possies in his last game and ZERO tackles.

How he got picked on that effort I'll never know.

On track for another stinker. Poor Bbb.

TMac form is the least of our problems. He is trying and breaking packs, it would be working if we were dominating inside 50 deliveries. But we can’t get our hands on the [censored] ball! That’s the problem.

Petracca needed to start in the middle. Oliver is being blanketed and their better mids running rampant.

Petracca has been soft.

Are you joking?

He’s the greatest ruckmen in the game, and is as hard as nails.

You should be ashamed of saying this.

Sad to say but Max needs some mongrel.

Gets pushed aside by much smaller blokes.

Give up the darts mate...youd be even fitter.

Love ya mate

Love the club more.

Leaders don't get pushed around....just sayin'.... and needs to be said.

Now get out there and play footy properly Dees...  this is [censored]

Probably scared of getting reported.

Of course but those types of goals happen.

I am far more worried about our midfield not touching the football. You’re leaving the poor defense so exposed.

You’re right. It’s not the defences fault. It’s pure midfield and clearances.

Love Max, but gee he’s soft when targeted, doesn’t throw his weight around and cause fear, Grundy is worse, whenever we play Port Allih Allih always plays a dominant game and we can’t compete with his body work

Yep Gawn is sooking it up and Grundy is a liability all over the ground. Doesn’t hold the ball in a contest and is so lazy defensively.

Midfield Brayshaw is gross. Just so slow.

Pickett’s not up for it as a mid.

Honestly might be worth giving Chandler a go

I just want to be in touch at 3/4 time and let’s see if our 4th quarter continues to be our best.

They did this year's ago to max and it worked. I'm sure Goody has spoken to him at half time.

Surely we aren't missing petty that much are we?

We are indeed a very soft side. Don’t have a shred of nastiness in us.

Sad to say, that's very true. Viney has had a crack at Boak and a couple of others, but why isn't anyone crashing into Rosee or Butters? Theyd slow down with a slam into the body via tackle or an unfortunate corkie

Me too, the midfield has been borderline disgraceful. I hope they are really embarrassed right now.

The ball is getting into their 50 so fast. 32 inside 50s, felt like 100 that quarter.

Will Goodwin change his game plan?

Losing the clearances doesn’t seem to be working.

We all know how stubborn the coach is though unfortunately!

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, we’re too tall for modern day football, when our midfield gets a bath, our big blokes don’t chase and tackle and we get cut open.

need a smaller forward line, 1 x big forward, and a resting ruckmen deep forward then have 4 x quick smaller blokes.

still reckon we’ll win tonight, Midfield needs a bake from the coaches

My hates.

1. PA can easily go through the corridor with little pressure.

2. Gawn and Grundy are virtually a liability.

3. Kids getting shown up. McVee, Roo, Rivers, Pickett, etc MIA.

4. If we have ANB in our midfiled we are not in the top echelon of teams. Fumbles, fumbles, headless chicken.

5. May and Fritta only guys that appreciate the step up in pressure.

6. Drew flogging Tracc.

I've got this overwhelming feeling the Port are going to get a clearance and goal in the first 40 seconds. Change the damn narrative!

2 touches and one tackle, 1 mark for half a games not good enough by any metric.

Frittas been good.

Brayshaw getting shown up big time for fitness in the midfield. Blowing fairly hard and struggling to keep up with Butters. Much easier to get cheap kicks off half back.

it's actually hurting my eyes trying to watch Tom McDonald football.

Tom Mc Donald???? As USELESS as a one legged prawn in a flock of hungry seagulls. Surely Last ever game?? BBB MUST COME IN

I'll try and be positive.

We're 13 points down and none of our stars have absolutely fired a shot.

The upside is these guys can still go up a gear.

C'mon guys!

How does port have more tackles while also having more of the ball shows a massive lack of effort

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
