Would ice after a game on his achilles be a sign of concern or just standard practice for a 33 year old with a recent achilles problem?

With respect to the Petty forward or back debate, I'm wondering whether the thinking is that Turner has progressed enough through the pecking order so that we have the luxury of trying to turn Petty into a true key position forward. Whether they play this year or not, Brown and McDonald are both nearing the end, so the intention might be to have key defenders of May, Lever, D Turner and Tomlinson and key forwards of van Rooyen, Petty and eventually Jefferson.

Standard practice.

One of the reviews for this weeks game.

Let’s not muck around with this preview.

Melbourne will win this and win it comfortably on Saturday night.

North is going to get belted and it’ll be ugly.

Take the Dees 60+ and if you don’t barrack for any of these teams, why are you bothering watching this?

I’m looking forward to seeing what the highly fancied Harry Sheezel (hope I spelt that right) brings to the table.

I would like to think that the selection this week is part of a planned rotation to cover this block of three games. It is critical that we get the management of the crucial players right this season. I know that it is a week to week proposition with regard to in game injuries and recovery but I hope that we have some idea to get through this section of the draw.

To me there looked to be a couple of NQRs at the end of the game with Rivers 'cramping' and May just looking proppy. There are also some reports of Chandler carrying some injury. Not sure on any of these. but given the 5 day turn around we need to ensure that we have a team of fit and rested players on the ground.

Defence - if May is not fit I would give him a rest and this is not because we are playing North. I would rest him if he is not right no matter who we are playing. Petty back along with Lever and Disco. Bowey, Rivers (if fit), Hibberd (if fit) and McVee to fill out the rest of the match ups. Brayshaw can rotate back there if required.

Midfield - Pretty much as it was if they all pull up fit and rested. If Chandler does not pull up fit I would look at adding either Harmes, Laurie or Dunstan to the mix to rotate through the mid and also fill in forward when required.

Forwards - JVR with Schache and Max resting forward as talls. Fristch the other option with Pickett, ANB and a rotation of Mids in there. We need someone in there as a tall to give JVR a chance to work the second or third defender. If he gets the No.1 defender then he works as a decoy to move them out of the drop zone and allows the other talls to work there including Fristch.

I can see that there might be 3 or 4 changes to the team this week and a similar number again next week. We have quality depth in the list and need to use it.

❤️💙 GUSSY’S 150th GAME ❤️💙

🥳 🥳 This Saturday 🥳 🥳

Think Fritta is recovering from being held/pushed/retarded/ankle tapped/blocked by Grimes and co. every time he went for the ball! Joke umpires.

There has to be a solution to the forward line that doesn't include exposing May Hibberd and Lever to their injury management issues.

Max behind the ball down back and Petty continues his synergy with usual defenders.

Try Schacke for gods sake! If not why did we recruit him?

They show every sign of being on their last legs and I'm a fan of both of them.

Weid ( of whom I was not a fan)was being used much more suitably to his natural skills by the Bombers on Sunday .

If they can get Brown fit and kick on the lead it's problem solved.

I doubt it will happen though

Part of TMacs history was that he could run up and down  the ground as well as stand tall in the middle of a pack.

I think the runnings gone.

I think it’s Brown and he just has to be managed to get there at the right time of the year.

I think this is the question .

I know there's this procedure/protocol of longish stints in the magoos , then teasing extended bench selections. Sometimes surely pragmatic common sense must be employed.

This is , imho, the exact occasion you'd bring Shack in.  Neither BBB nor Tmac are good enough form/fitness to do justice to being on the field.

If we're managing them ( or whatever ) then there's still a need out on the ground for a capable competent role player.

Shack may not be the Bees Knees but he surely qualifies 10 steps ahead of the other two choices atm.

A fwd line with Shack, Fritter and Roo will sorely test Norf.  Shack , in the same manner Tommy did does not need to kick a bag to be useful.

This is the ideal game to see what he can bring. Reckon he might grab the opportunity with both hands .

Or.... we scratch our heads wondering why he's here.

I'd love to see one of Turner of Schache given a run in this game.

If Schache is the answer, we have a big problem.

Would just be nice to see him get a run, especially if some of these wholesale management changes are being suggested.

However in terms of giving someone a run I'd be leaning to someone like Turner to get his experience up.

Im not sure we have half a dozen fit KPPs at the moment

We do have problem T MAc is cooked and BBB is not travelling well with lower back problems

Again tell me why we recruited Shak

I'm pretty concerned about the quick turn-around for this game, many players looked proppy in the last game.  You want to treat every opponent respectfully, but I wonder if this is a good chance for some rotations.

Bowey looked off for mine, but can we afford to give him a spell with Salem still out?

I would reckon that (if fit) Pickett and Fritsch will both bounce back.  The question is, are they fit?

I'd actually like to see us continue with Petty up forward as a foil for JVR and the rucks when they are up there, the defence held up OK without him last week.  Would be good to give Disco a run if May needs a break.

Firstly... i think youre doing Shack an injustice by being so dismissive. He's no A grade... a pretty solid B  ( or thereabouts )...

and speaking of problems we have a serious one up front. All well and good when one of Tmac or Benny are up and about.... but they aren't and then Fritter and Roo cop heavier attention.

If the club doesn't think hes anything...why have him.

He's an experienced Forward. His defence experience affords him decent savvy .

He's not ideal perhaps.

Whats your answer Jade ??

Could not agree more, we won’t win a flag with one tall forward who has played 5 games. Oh and welcome back bb.

SCHACHE

North off a 5 day break is the perfect break glass moment. Give him 3 - 4 games and we've either got a player or he's a Casey specialist.

I don't understand how posters have already totally written Schache off already either.  Most consistent Casey VFL watches were convinced he was the most likely to get the call up ahead of JVR before Schache got his concussion.  When he returned he was clearly Casey's best tall against Essendon VFL.

Wardlaw might debut as well. Those two and LDU should be A+ graders in years to come

May looks off his best and possibly carrying an injury, so Turner in for him.

Spargo another week away.

I will never be convinced of Dunstan or Shache as AFL footballers.

Our forward set up is better with BBB in it, but he has to be fit and able enough. If he comes in, Rivers or Sparrow to the sub., Laurie back to Casey unfortunately.

Mitch Brown replacement

I am not sure why we've written off Ben Brown.

Before his back injury he was having a good start to the season.

I think we need to try him and JVR out in the same forwardline.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
