Gawn will be back for round 8 V Gc IMO.

Can’t see them risking our biggest asset this early in the season for winnable game against Richmond and North.

If he is ready , he plays. Don’t forget that Gawn and Grundy still need to refine their chemistry.

Lever <> Tommo

Tmac  <> BBB

Hibbo <> Melk

Spargo <> JJ

Gawn <> ???

Gawn only if he is 100%, and if not I think we have to consider Schache to chop out Grundy.

Sparrow on high notice.

Melksham never to be in the starting line up again please!

I get your piont, but if, IF Merlin fires ......... PLAY HIM!!

Agree Picket Fence. Not necessarily at CHF or FF either.
MJ could probably play as a half forward flanker in the Fritsch mould.  He is a forward with a forwards brain and style of play so is suited to AFL level if he earns his spot in the Casey team with a good performance.

Forget all this too light stuff as long as he plays on the flank not against  a 1,2or 3 defender.

Howes and Turner are both competing for the 3rd tall defender if Petty goes forward and we want a Hibbo replacement. Turner more ready for that job. But would love to see Howes start to demand a go.

We’re yet to give JJ a second full game, I don’t see Harmes or Laurie jumping him. Unless Laurie is just blistering and they want him in Spargo’s role.

Schache a small chance if they want to keep Petty back.

Moniz-Wakefield? I’d love to see it

How are Howes and Turner competing for thr same spot?

Both have been playing completely different positions to each other at Casey.

Howes has been playin the quarterback role that's been used as one of their main distributors off half back. He's also been pushing higher up the field to add as an extra around the midfield as a sweeper.

Turner played deep defence last week.

I’m worried Goodwin won’t drop Tmac after that one poor performance, but I can’t see how he doesn’t come out for Brown on team balance.

Out: Tomlinson, Spargo, Melksham, Tmac

In: Lever, Hibberd, Brown, Jordan

Petty, Brown and JvR as the starting tall forwards.

Richmond only have two tall forwards (Ryan and Riewoldt) so Petty can play forward on Balta.

It worries me if we rush Max in.  Just last week Goodwin said he was at least a month away and we wouldn't take any chances.

We are playing Richmond and they have some key experienced outs:  Lynch, Nankervis, Broad, Soldo, Graham so match-ups may drive selections.

Out:  Spargo (Concussion), TMc (back/rib injury???), Tomlinson (Form)

In: Laurie, Brown, Lever

Melksham probably out but don't know who we would bring in for him.  Jordon but he is not a fwd...

There are others that should probably be out if injured or out of form but doubt we can or will make too many changes.  And no one should be dropped on one poor game.

Mc Donald has had 1 good game and 3 poor ones. His mobility is about the same as the Robot in Lost in Space. He goes back to Casey IMO

Bowey was poor, but we can’t drop him on that performance alone. I’d move him forward to cover Spargo.

That is the second poor game for pretty much everyone this season so I’m ok if goody wants to send a message to the Group and swings some changes.

Lever and BBB are automatic inclusions if fit for Tomo and Melksham.

I’m a huge fan of Spargo but maybe a run in the 2’s might help him. He’s just not his usual self at the moment.

TMac? It’s getting harder to consider him best 22. His good games are too few and far between. I think he’s at a critical juncture. He needs to start performing otherwise he’s depth only.

Sounded from Goodwin's presser that Gawn is playing this week. He is a quick healer, although I guess he has technically already missed 4 given he only lasted 5 minutes into the Brisbane game. Yesterday showed how important he is to our defence. Grundy does some things very well, but defending isn't one of them.  Hopefully Lever is right to go too.  Beware the wounded Tiger.

Only on the basis say Schache replaces him. Needs to be for another chance to find a forward though not just redoing previous Casey runs.

Every game is a danger game . Richmond and Norff could easily knock us off if we stand around giggling.

If Gawn says he can play then play him immediately. Get Brown and Lever back plus the right attitude and we win.

Special thanks to Gill and AFL.....

Melbourne get a miserable 6 day break after playing in Perth.

Collingwood played at the Gabba so the AFL made sure they were well rested and fit for the Gather round 10  days break.

Dont tell me that is just how the fixture works. Melbourne  ,once again, dont even get a mid season bye. Pies get 13 days. We get the same 'break' as Collingwood got from r4 to r5.

Gawny is not needed till the North game on Sat 29th. Debauched not very observant only 5 days between AnzEve and Round7.

But he also forgets that we have a 9 day break also. Let's be consistent Deb?

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
