SEN-BLOODY-SATIONAL NEWS!

Was meant to be this week.  Will probably take a few weeks to find his feet but young fellas also have no fear so hopefully has an impact early.

Hope Goody gives him a decent block of games to settle in.

I'd be very surprised if jvr isn't the second ruck, with so.ething like a 30-70 split with Grundy.

Tmac is all at sea in centre square ruck contests.

And when in ruck he is taken away from the very important role he plays as a forward, in particular the up and down the ground running he does to create contest - a role jvr is not suited to, nor has the tank for.

If D/Lers read my posts earlier in the week about what role he should be doing if he debuts.

I indicated he should be doing the 2nd  ruck role ( really it is the third) in 2022 but we are back to Brody first ruck and Tmac struggling to make an impression as a forward ruck so really it's best if JVR is given some free reign to play tha Weid role that Sam couldn't because he did not have the physical and mental capacity to grab or grip the footy in a contest consistently.

Entirely different set of skills that JVR possesses to make a fist of it. He has the marking ability the never say die attack to mark the ball and he follows up like a Clarry disciple to ensure that ground opportunities are not wasted.

I say Binman take the pressure off him with one opponent and let him roam for 1/3!of his day doing what he did last week, taking marks and repelling attacks, and also the forward zone he took some as well and converted.

I did warn that all Dees fans want to see is JVR kick goals but he should be developed with the run on ruck then he will be prepared for a breakout career in attack rounding his whole game out as he learns and Jones his craft.

Good luck Roooy!!!

BTW don't  be surprised if this is not a giant incentive to Matty Jefferson who is starting to specialise in his marking and gaining more confidence. I am not sure he will need the whole season before he is demanding he be given an opportunity to debut. He is freakishly talented and holding him back may not be the way to develop him. Let this wild horse run and mark free and let's see where it takes him.

we won't have the oldest team ever much longer if this pair can  make a good start to their careers with the mighty Dees.

Our forward line may well be a real strength in the near future thanks again to the fantastic work of JT and TL and their team/s.

Cant wait till Sunday to see this debut and the excitement it will generate in the crowd who may well be a thousand or three larger than duly expected.

We have a good deal to look forward to in the coming month and a bit. JVR in, Kozzie back, May back, Salem almost back, Gawn on the way back, Grundy getting re-settled as a decided talent, JJ coming in, Verral looking ominous, and so the story goes.

Yes will need to settle within the next two to three weeks though 56 to have any chance of a genuine shot at the big one in 23.

Will probably take two to three matches for Grundy to start gelling with the mids & forwards etc.  Last week partially a reflection of the fact that they didnt?

Playing catch up and having to tinker quite a bit so early tends to give the oppos who aren't having to do these things a bit of a free hit in some matches.

Kozzy going out was a huge blow as well as he was in such sparlkling form and adds the zip around the contest that we are lacking.

Would've kept Hunt for another season to add some run off HB.  We still look too pedestrian down there for mine, allowing the oppos forwards and mids to defend pretty easily.

We also can't afford to carry the odd player through a match as we did with Melk last week.  Macca also a bit of a liability so far unfortunately.  Last chance saloon for him this week surely?

The stand out up-and-coming prospect for mine at Casey on the weekend was Oli Sestan.  Could be a beauty this kid and if he can show some consistency  i'm predicting he'll debut sometime this season.

No pressure on the kid first game. Let him experience it....

PS. If he doesn't kick at least 8 I'm going to be brutally disappointed 😝

Thanks @In Harmes Way. So it’s official. Horse’s mouth and all that. No excuse for ANYONE on here, or ANYWHERE (just wait for the commentators to stuff up his name) to use the “OO”. It’s “OY”.

OY…..OY….OY…..OY….OY. Not OO!!! (Expecting your support @Demonstone).

Nickname, I’m going with “VAN ROY-BOY”. Maybe just “ROY-BOY”. (Absolutely aware of the allusions to old Fitzroy, but as they’re no longer an AFL entity, so be it).

If we recruited Hugh Greenwood from North, we could have Royen HG.  :D

Yeah I like Roy Boy too Webber. Or maybe 'The Royston' after the Richmond pub.

You forgot Jefferson.

The glimpses I saw of him in the Casey game were very promising…looks a pure big forward

Really agree with all you have indicated. Exciting times ahead, multifunctional and dedicated across the field - a symbiosis that only the long-awaiting fans could (and historically did) imagine.

Well, hopefully his people don't originate from here, then:

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
