I'd think he does.

Why and where will he play. He has no form. Let him earn promotion. JVR has earned a chance well before Joel.

Any thoughts about a shifty move - Harry Petty Forward, May into side.  Milky back to Casey and AMW in?  TMac play second ruck.

He's not a marking player, I don't know how many times this needs to be repeated. Collingwood fans know it all too well. Any expectation that he's going to take 5+ marks a game with a good % contested is just wrong - he's not that player and at 28 he's not going to be.

No is asking him to go out and take 5 contested marks. Just be a target to bring the ball to ground or go and give a chop out done back. Watching McInerney sprint forward while Grundy laboured was damming footage.

He struggled to do both on the weekend. I'll cut him a little slack from that but now there's no excuses now for Sydney.

I'm backing him in to do well

christ didn’t realise about the car race

surely melbourne supporters are too refined to watch cars race in a circle for 60 laps?

V8 Supercars maybe but hi-tech European speedsters with names like Ferrari and Mercedes could be a worry.

Neither. Sydney undoubtedly looking more dangerous, have beaten us twice at the MCG... gonna be hard to swallow if we lose to Brisbane and Sydney in consecutive weeks... AGAIN.

The bookies must think we’ll win to get everyone to pile on Sydney at over $2 (I’m not serious that not how bookies work)

And The Age tipsters are 7 to 4 a Melbourne win which surprises me.

Maybe those for us haven't looked at history, not that it is everything.

Given how bad the Bulldogs are and our loss to Brisbane, I'm not sure our performances so far are anymore noteworthy than Sydney's two mammoth wins.

Still feel they have the edge.  But hope the team bring it home for Oliver's 150th!!

Edit:  Haha, Fox tipsters have it the other way round:  6 to 2 Sydney!!

It's rare that media or neutral fans know about a team's 'bogey team' and history with them. One of those things only the club's supporters seem to care about.

Of course he didn't. It's the beginning of his busy period given it will also be Palm Sunday.

Fake news!

Delighted for JVR. May he have a long and prosperous career in the Red & Blue!

Absolutely stoked that JVR is getting a call up.

I saw someone comment on the Demonland facebook page that the call up might be at the expense of Tommy Mac being out with a foot injury. Yep it was on Facebook so it must be true. I know, I know. But if there is some truth to it we need to cover him and Max being out. Another tall needs to come in otherwise it will leave Benny Brown the lone tall in the forward line at times.

When one door closes (Gawny), another one opens.

Congrats to JVR on his debut. Go well!

Good luck to jvr . Hope there isn't a pile on here if he dosen't tear it up.

Some people's Expectations I feel are ridiculously high.

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
