IN: May, JVR, Jordon

OUT: Tomlinson, Gawn, Harmes

Other than BB and Lever the entire team was way-off. I think we should stick fat and give everyone the chance to atone so no changes other than for injuries.

TMac the big worry. Very ineffectual. Another poor game against the Swans and he'll have to be dropped.

Harmes and Tmac on extremely thin ground.
Not sure how you drop Tmac without Gawn though.

Sore or not Petty was worse than Tomlinson

Last night was a shocker on so many levels. It was not us. Must park it and move on.

We want the real Melbourne to step up and play with spirit next week. Take the game on!

We need our supporter base to rock up next week and back our boys in. This could be a season defining game.

If we are serious about rewarding form Tomo stays in and if so Petty (if fit) goes forward and TMac goes out. We need someone who can take a contested grab.  Hoping the Schache has a quality game today to tune himself up for a run at forward/second ruck (which is why we traded for him). Best performed mid/half forward to come in for Harmes who was poor.

Out: Gawn, TMac, Harmes

In: Schache, May, (best performed half forward/mid).

At least a decent break before Sydney

Outs

🚑Gawn ( I hope and pray it’s not ACL)

🤡 Harmes must be dropped to Casey

☹️ Melksham to Casey (new sub needed)

? Tmcd was ineffective and pushed aside too easily by Payne

? Petty could benefit from time at Casey (Tomlinson was better again tonight)

ins

️ May must be back to battle Franklin

? JVR /Schache- depends on how perform at Casey (replace Tmcd)

? Salem - fitness test 🙏🏽

👍🏻 Jordon to come back in (why was he out?)

sub Joel Smith if he has a good game

I am pretty sure they already confirmed Salem is at least 2 weeks before he can play at all (most likely will start at VFL level).

In my opinion only

Petty did not play well and has a sore leg, should not have gone back when he came back on.

McVee, should never have been up against Cameron far too experienced, then later Daniher, head and shoulders.

rubbish selection given he played against Cameron, needs more experience against other players not so good.

No Salem, No Maxy, No Kossy,  Petty should not play, McVee if he plays, not against a player like Cameron,

Viney and Fritta should be fitter,  only play May if he is 110%.

There will only be 2 or 3 changes,   So Max, Petty both injured maybe McVee

So we replace like with like, a champion captain and ruckman and two backmen

And line the rest of the team up, tell them to bend over a kick them in the back side. for their game. Apart from the last few minutes.   Only a couple of minutes, a couple of times, did we look any good at all.  Apart from those 12.

Imo, back up ruckman to Grundy should be an experienced player who is an excellent one on one competitor, who is in form, and damages our structures the least.

Why cant Tomo do it.

Apart from being a liability in the back half, Tmac in the ruck throws our forward patterns out of kilter.

Rob Casey to pay Paul, not Peter.

I hope they don't panic too much, but i'm a bit concerned by McDonalds output, he'd want to find some significant form very soon

I'd guess May will come back in, and potentially someone like Josh Schache. depending on Maxy's situation i reckon we might grab a ruck in the mid season draft

McDonald looks injured and inflexible, and seems to lack the strength to hold his position in the contest. He struggled last year and things haven't improved for him this year.

All preseason we were playing schache as 2nd ruck if Gawn or Grundy wasn’t taking part in the sims, I’d say it’s almost certain he will come in and play that role now. If not for making to many changes at once I’d be bring in Vanrooyen for Tmac next week anyway. Along with Schache for Gawn and May for Tomlinson

Tomlinson the sub been in good form.

Why drop Thommo if he us in good form ? Tmac should be in defence and Petty when fit on the forward line.

I have this feeling Petty is never the same without May. Never as confident. Any one else feel that way ?

Tmac, Harmes and Melksham goneski

Hope Goody opens his eyes somewhat and makes a few hard calls.  That was a brutally bad performance from far too many.

A warning shot is needed and it needs to be this week in my opp.  At the same time you don't want to hit the panic button just yet either.

I expect Goody might go one more round with T-Mac on the G this week.

Schache is a highly likely possibility for Max as long as he shows something today.

If Schache manages to hold down this spot at senior level (should he get the call up) we are then talking a mostly forward role if, fingers crossed, Max is ok and returns in a few weeks.

Bare minimum Harmes & Melk simply have to make way for any half decent form from Dunstan & JVR this arvo.  Only an ordinary performance should see them not comimg under serious consideration imv.

Better hope Maysy is fit to take on Buddy.  I can't see anyone else going with him (with much effect) on the day.

Hopefully Hibb has a good hit out also.  Would be my first choice to take on Paps if he's in fine fettle today.

Tomlinson played on no one and had 8 disposals apart from kick ins and 4 intercept possessions.

He wasn’t good.

Petty had a stinker that’s for sure, but I think we all know why. If he’s not hampered by the injury he should be fine.

1 week is not form. It’s just a game. If you include preseason Petty had 3 very good weeks including a complete shut down job on Riewoldt before they subbed big Samson on fresh on a disgustingly hot game. His form has been good.

Its also too early to throw Petty forward. Let’s give Tommy another week and try someone fresh alongside him (hopefully JVR) and then reassess.

Ha? He played on Hipwood who kicked 0 goals and had 7 touches.

Choose another sub. Not Melksham

The sub needs to be someone like a Smith who can play on a tall/short. Melksham whilst a great kick, doesn't get involved enough. He's the icing on the cake type of player. He plays okay when we are on top, but not so much when we aren't switched on. I was hoping that either JVR/Smith would've be given the vest last night as I wasn't confident Tom would play well and with Fritter playing first game back. The only positive is that Melks is 2 games closer to getting 100 games with us. I reckon he'll get there, but I'd be selecting a different sub for the Syd game.

Schache plays based on what I'm seeing.

Hibberd in for Harmes (Rivers to play more midfield minutes)

May for Petty

Schac for Max

Laurie or Jordan for Melksham

I think Hibberd coming in for Harmes is a good idea. Whether it's Rivers or Brayshaw who push up the ground more, I like it more than swapping Harmes for say Dunstan.

Based on VFL form... JVR for McDonald

Jordon at the very least replaces Melksham as the sub

Schache took a knock and did not return for the last quarter

Cameron took one mark and kicked 2 goals, one a mid air volley. Being the amount and quality of ball that went in the Lions forwardline I would possibly argue McVee won the match up or halved it.

Jordon needs to come in for Harmes. I think Melksham is fine as a sub. It doesn’t matter who is the sub, if a key position player goes down 2 minutes into the game you are [censored] regardless.

Post VFL game I will assume Schache is concussed being he missed the last quarter. Based on that and todays performance JVR, May, Jordon in and good chance Laurie or Hibberd find their way into the 23.

B: Lever, May, Bowey

HB: Brayshaw, Petty, Rivers

C: Hunter, Petracca, Langdon

HF: Chandler, McDonald, Neal-Bullen

F: Fritsch, Brown, Spargo

FOLL: Grundy, Oliver, Viney

IC: Hibberd, Laurie, Sparrow, van Rooyen

SUB: McVee

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
