Yes we appeared to be at cross purposes over our posts and I agree with you that the AFL wouldn’t be concerned with which players are actually picked by clubs.

As to the remarks you saw as condescending, they weren’t intended that way, but I take your point and will do better.

All good, tone is rarely conveyed well via text and I was perhaps overly sensitive as well. Now, back to trade rumours....

Mrs. Redleg has often told me not to write thoughts, but to actually say them, as there is less room for misunderstanding or misinterpretation.

As you say, back to rumours.

We have so far had posters saying Grundy is going to the Swans in a 3 club deal, back home to Port and now it’s being reported he has just bought a house in Melbourne. Wonder if the house has a farm attached.

Hi Dazz.  There is a bit going on and I'll be in a better position over the coming weeks to possibly announce some details.  I can tell you though that the Swans have, and are still having an enormous crack at Brodie, however, Brodie has almost totally decided it is back to SA for him due to changing family reasons.  This will probably leave Port as the most likely.  Lots of details yet to be worked out and tricky with both Clubs going deep.

I can also tell you that the Swans are heavily into Parish & Bailey Smith, I don't the media has caught up with their interest in Parish, but they're very keen.

It'll come as no surprise but it is almost certain that Bailey Smith will be elsewhere next year.

Stay well & Go Dees.

Thanks 🐐

AFL.com are reporting that we are offering GC our first rounder, 23 and 32 for pick 4 which CG need to trade for points.

Id be happy to throw in our first round pick for next year too.

Then we go into this draft with pick 4 and 5 in a very strong draft.  Next years draft is apparently shallow so later picks won't be as profitable. all be it early days judging next years draft.

Every chance some other club could gazzump that

If - when - we win the premiership and Flagmantle finish 13th that’ll be 18, 23, 36 and less than 300 points over the value of pick 4

If we land Oscar Allen (is this the Allen you are referring to?), Demonland will crash.

I just cannot see on what planet WCE let him go, and he is contracted.

Exactly — they likely wouldn’t even if we did convince him to move.. but u have to be in it to win it right

There is no such thing as a bidding war for a player. The player will nominate his club of choice, and he either goes there or remains at his existing club.

And Grundy is a 99% chance of leaving. The club doesn't want to pay $650k for a back up ruckman until Max retires.

And it's been mentioned previously that a player can't be paid by 3 clubs, so we can't pay a portion of Grundy's contract whilst the Pies are still paying a significant chunk.

Incorrect, esp when multiple clubs in same state — dees are under no obligation to trade yes not uncontracted mate that’s the diff

I don't see Melb paying a cent. they will keep him if that's the case.
The interesting factor that may come up is if the bench goes to 5.  Which i believe was the original reason for going after Grundy.

If Grundy asks to leave, we may well pay some of his contract. I can't see us keeping him if he wants to go elsewhere

I highly doubt we will pay $650k for a player of his caliber to play at Casey as back up for 4 more years, esp if there are clubs enquiring now.

If we were to get a pick in the 20s, I'd go for it. Might be low 20s if we contribute, or high 20s if we do not. That was the deal 12 mths ago apparently

Definitely throw in our future 1st, maybe with a future 2nd or 3rd coming back. The problem is GC need points this year, and 400 points extra probably isn't enough for them to bite

Dees wont want to pay anything,  $650 for Grundy is a bargain.  and they will see it that way.  If as many clubs that are reported are interested in him there is no need to pay any of his contract.  Id say they don't care too much of the pick as they will be looking to move it on anyway.

They have plenty of points, they just need a few more. this trade would get them there maybe the pick from the Grundy trade as well

Am I the only one that thinks Grundy should be the #1 ruck with Max the extra tall in the forward line?

Have Max and Grundy rotating with each other 70/30split. Max stays fresh, Brodie gets his ruck spot. Simples.

No Max is the Number One at the MfC and Grundy came to make the T.E.A.M. better. It's all about the T.E.A.M. and us being better not about Grundy feeling better.

Would WC take pick 4 and 5 for Allen and would we do it?

I’d do it. Jvr and Allen would set up our forward line for a decade. Dream team pairing.

wont happen though. WC are trying to rebuild. Makes no sense for them to trade their best young player.

If it's all about the team, we need to come to the realisation that Gawn is 32 at the end of the year. If Grundy hadn't carried a good chunk of the ruck load, Gawn wouldn't be as fresh for finals as he will be. He'd be even more banged up than he was last year and at (near enough) 32, he might not have too many years left in him and even less if he's carrying 90+% of the load. I'm not saying Grundy stays, but we sure as hell need someone who can give him a meaningful chop out, not just 5 minutes here and there. I wouldn't be settling for NQR ruckman like Ladhams, Hayes, Flynn and the eternally injured Preuss.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
