In terms of overall total value, wait for the pre-season Foxtel sale. Normally $40ish dollars with Sport 4K + Entertainment. So it works out as more overall value than Kayo and you also get 4K.

It's only one device though yeah? (The one with the Foxtel iq box connected)

Kayo you can use on any smart device and can watch on two or three devices simultaneously if you pay a bit extra (still cheaper than Foxtel). You can also split with a mate/family member for the time being which works out to $15 a month and there is no contract or joining fees so you can cancel as soon as the footy is finished meaning you're only paying for 6 months instead of 12.

so what is the $400 per year for?

I would just bite the bullet and sign-up to Kayo - we’ve got the two screens shared between family members which is never an issue.

You get virtually the same Fox Footy coverage, plus all the shows. Fox Cricket is great. Really good Motorsport coverage - and the only ads are during quarter breaks, tea breaks etc.

The downsides are when you rewatch a match you often get just the match itself - not the pre-game, half-time or post-game analysis. And obviously there isn’t the ability to record what you specifically want (ie. foxtel IQ).

I look at it as a cost per use or cost per sport. Sure, it would be great to have more US sport coverage, not to mention EPL or EuroSport but it is what it is.

About 1500 channels of live TV around the world and a movie library on demand with [censored] that's still showing at the cinema

God bless Kayo.

Remember when we didn't have Kayo?

Note, Netflix is reportedly starting a crackdown on subscription sharing and I wouldn't mind betting Kayo do at some point too.  Just hope it's not soon as sharing a subscription with my sister is a pretty good deal for me at the moment!

Overall, it might not be the cheapest, but I'm pretty happy to contribute my MFC home and away membership and attend at the ground as my preferred means of watching.  Totally understand that everyone's finacial situation might be different though and you've got to rationalize what where you spend your money in life.

With a membership the club profits.

Everyone watches footy differently. If you like watching neutral games and spend Sat and Sun during the day getting a footy fix as well as getting all the exclusive Fox Footy content, then Kayo is a very good value option for you.

If you tend to only watch Melbourne games then it's a tougher ask to fork out that much per month but could still be an option. If you are a member and go to every home game and just need something to watch our away games then the pub is probably cost effective option.

Different strokes though.

So this is an interesting development:

https://membership.melbournefc.com.au/membership/kayo-digital

KAYO DIGITAL

The best (and cheapest) way to stream all our games live, while supporting the Melbourne Football Club through membership. It's a win, win!

Package Benefits

A subscription for 12 months of Kayo Basic (RRP $360)

Access to watch all AFL Premiership season games, plus more than 50 other sports, as part of your 12-month Kayo subscription

2023 Melbourne Armchair membership

40% off voucher to use at the Demon Shop (valid for one transaction)

Access to exclusive offers from club partners

Would be interested in the details and implications of this deal:

1.  The number of devices it permits per subscription, i.e. is it Kayo premium etc?

2.  Does it mean any existing member that purchases the Kayo subscription through this offer adds another membership No. to the club's total (not sure that's a huge advantage as no doubt all AFL have been offered this deal)

Anyways an interesting option for those wanting to know 'the best way to watch the Footy'

it says kayo basic package which is 2 devices and $30/month from kayo

the afl club price for kayo varies a little from club to club

I would sign up for this if it was only for the footy season (and half price).

I cancel kayo as soon as the season is done and re-subscribe when it starts again. Nothing much to interest me over the summer except for NFL and I use their Gamepass for that.

In the off season, I have some of the 2021 MFC games on repeat, but yeah, get what your saying.

Sorry in advance for being a tech philistine

Has anyone else signed up to the $229 Kayo membership offer?. I have just signed up through the club website and not sure where to go from here. Sort of figured there would be prompts to get me access to Kayo but there isn’t. Any suggestions?
I have an inactive Kayo account

I believe you'll receive an email from the club with details and a 12 month pass for Kayo. If you already have an account then it's likely you'll just have to redeem the code and you'll have access.

Dear Fellow International Demonlanders, anyone know if we receive a code for Watchafl like last year (came in January)?

I have not seen anything yet and cant access Watchafl, therefore no Fox Footy and no cover of Match Sim I think, any clue?

A relative of mine had to contact the club to get it to work this year.

Anyone else use the Telstra TV box to watch replays of matches etc? The AFL app has suddenly disappeared ...

That Melbourne Kayo deal is outstanding value if you usually have Kayo for the year. Probably aimed at people who cancel during the footy off-season.

I'll be saving $131 by signing up to this as opposed to year long Kayo sub, and i get a 40% voucher for the demonshop - the perfect place to spend the money i've saved aha.

The only issue with Kayo....

If we get today's commentary team as the regular gig through the season... I'm not going to be happy.......

Have no idea who they were - he had good knowledge but the personality of a brick. She seemed personable but was deadset barracking for St Kilda and had absolutely NFI about players form both teams (possibly knew about them but it wouldn't be hard, given her lack of knowledge of the Dees)

At one stage she was saying how Lachie Hunter had once again linked up playing with Zane Cordy after leaving the dogs.... WTAF

Update: Tess from the club advised me my payment in October did not go through for automatic renewal, i sent her new card details and it was fixed inside 1 hour and the code for watchafl renewal supplied simultaneously ( and at the same time.., one for the buffs) cant ask for better than that!

Thanks Heart Break. I’ve been receiving other emails like voting at the recent AGM and this week a 40% voucher for the store, but I’ll shoot them an email 👍

I’m the same. Kayo gets cancelled the minute footy is done and I sign up for another streaming service instead to keep me busy during the off season.
Plus I go to every game in Melbourne and have a premium membership so I mostly use Kayo for replays and to watch interstate games. It’s a rip off and the quality is rubbish.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
