It's hard to tell from the drills and in particular the match sim which today wasn't a full length match sim (more like 3/4) this means that there weren't all the traditional positions on the ground like flankers and pockets.

In addition any time that there is a forward/defender match up it's a key position match up.

If I had to guess he's probably too skinny for a midfield roll, certainly not an inside mid role. He might be more suited to a wing. I've liked what I've seen of him on limited occasions.

He us well respected for ability but it would be good to bulk-up some more - otherwise, heavy contact will be an ongoing issue and on-ground rigors may cruel his game. Anyway, congratulations Blake ... gobble up the road ahead.

Being a bag of bones didn’t worry Alan Johnson or Robbie Flower!

Howes really moves well and has good AFL attributes (length and dexterity). He obviously needs a bit of muscle (which will come) and he also needs to be a bit more desperate in the contest. There was a bit of Jack Watts about his game when he returned from injury late last year.

Not that it necessarily means much for 2023, but in all the games I saw him play for Casey, he was mostly on the wing.

Genuine Round 1 chance. Huge wraps on on him and Goody is a very very big fan. Keen to watch his development.

what is this based on may I ask ?

I suggest if his form is good at minimum he will make a quality 23rd man being his height and speed gives him great flexibility if required for injury or to come on fresh to inject some energy and pace.

Yes but can Blake do something when and how he gets the ball ?

I think he is a top prospect and despite his physical development he may need another pre season to really stand up to AFL style pressure.

Whether he debuts as 23 Rd man which now has no special relevance  to injury it will be well longed for as his ability and versatility  ( other than his pace and energy as a bonus) are universally recognised.

A contract extension now makes perfect sense and he and JVR are setting the pace for our 2021 draft recruits and are well deserved extensions at this stage

Who will of the 2021 drafters or young prospects will be next to extend their term?

Taj, AMW, or Judd or maybe Deakyn?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
