It will probably be Buddy's final game, packed house at the SCG so they will be highly motivated and go all out to give him the send off he deserves.  Often forgotten in the GOAT discussions.

By then I think we will be locked into 4th so the result of the last game won't matter.

We don't want to be going into finals off the back of a loss though. The only premier in the last decade to lose their final H&A game was the Bulldogs in 2016.

Just another record for us to break!

Not suggesting we want to lose or that we will.  But hey, if we have some sore players why play them in a dead rubber, if that is what it turns out to be.

Nonetheless, I like the romance of an out and out champion of the game being saluted in his last run.

Agree, but hope we are secure in 4th place before the game.

Sydney are a proud club with a lot of underperforming stars - they should win on Thursday and then in Perth to keep their season alive.

If we are relying on Rd 24 for top 4 then jeez…

You know this is the MFC right? They know no other way.

Further to this, the previous 10 premiers combined have gone 35-5 in the last 4 rounds of the season..

Surely we would like to finish 4th if Collingwood locks the 1st place.

We'd always want an "away" final at the G.

Don't want to travel to the Gabba or Adelaide Oval in the first week of finals.

Is there still a week off before the finals with the extra round this year?

Agree , but I have another scenario that includes QF 1 at Adelaide.

IF Dees finish 3rd, probability is they will not play away from the G at all for remaining finals, even if they lose that first QF to Power.  Will Play week 2 at the G, and then have Pies in Prelim at the G.

All down to winning this week. If not then forget I spoke.

We can win anywhere. Especially with the pressure on the other team.

But we just need to make sure we have a home semi final to get into a prelim. That’s the benefit of top 4 is.

Buddy’s not the GOAT, not strong enough overhead to be even considered.

Is he not second on the leading goalkicker of all time list?

He deserves to be in the conversation. He's been a superstar.

dunno mate.  6 and 10.  would take a miracle for Swans to make the finals, especially how poorly they are playing and losing to the Tigers last week.  they would pretty much have to win all 7 remaining games

Having seen Buddy play last friday, I wouldn't be surprised if he pulls the pin before the last round.  Sad to see him lose his agility. Maybe they'll give him some time off and wheel him out for the last round

Absolutely laughable he has never won a brownlow (or multiple) when players like Priddis can win one.  Buddy has been the player of this generation. Certainly part of GOAT conversations but not in top 3 imo

Hayden Young potentially injured apparently

Would be a massive out normally but can see it making much of a difference this week. They are currently $7 to beat the pies.
Now if he missed the Sydney game as well that would help this death ride nicely.

Think Id prefer to go to port first week, free hit with a nervous port team. Win and we set up a home Prelim. loose and we hopefully win week 2 and set up a home prelim against the pies.

He also played in a lower scoring era than Dunstall and Lockett, and also in an era where the goal kicking load was shared more evenly between players (not primarily the full forward).

In the years Buddy has been active, the average team score was 87 points, whilst it was 99 (2 goals) more in the time of Dunstall and Lockett.

Also, since Buddy has been active, he is the only player to have kicked 100 goal in a season. The only player to have even kicked 90 in that time was Fevola (the same year). Between 1983 and 1999, when Lockett was playing, there were only 4 years where a player didn't kick 100 goals (Beasley 1985 - 93 goal, John Longmire 1990 - 98 goals, Tony Modra 1997 - 81 goals, and Scott Cumming 1999 - 88 goals). Nobody has kicked more than 80 goals since 2009! During Lockett's 17 year career, there were 21 occasions where a player kicked 100 goals.

Buddy is underrated as a potential GOAT. The nearest goalkicking rivals of his era have played about he same number of games (J Riewoldt and Hawkins) and still haven't even kicked 800 goals (779 and 772 - Buddy has 1061).

Also not in the goal scoring era of Dunstall and Lockett, but in the defence first era.

Overhead marking definitely not a strength, but I'd argue he was a tall strong flanker rather than a true CHF in that sense. And I reckon he'd have a fair case as the GOAT HFF!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
