Speaking of defenders 'Pennant'...do you have a view on Jed Adams?

I know it's not the right thread but seeing as you're here....

No, haven’t actually seen him play, live coached against Peel colts 3 times last season and he didn’t play in any of those games

Have always laughed at other club's 'death riding' our picks, feel like it's tempting fate to do the same. Not sure any club has done well put of death riding.

That said, top 5 please, would really burn Freo who have been a 'Bell' end to deal with.

Freo’s best team are certainly top 8 (and higher) quality but I’m feeling optimistic about this pick as they traded out a fair bit of depth. I can’t see them coping well with more than a couple of best 18 injuries. Hopefully they will have a 2019 Dees-type run!

Bit of a sheltered life here. I presume it's a cultural reference, but what does 'deathride' mean and what are its origins?

'Feathered cap', too, for that matter (in this context)...

Deathride in this context is to be wishing on the downfall of whatever teams pick you own, not really sure where it originates from but has become the common phrase used in pick swap scenarios. You'll find various threads on other footy forums 'deathriding' other teams i.e Swans have one for Hawthorn, as they own their 2nd rounder next year

Peter Bell liked using the feather in cap phrase to describe his many trade 'wins' & accomplishments

Fair chance they’ll be 6-0 unfortunately. Saints, Roos, Eagles, Crows, Suns, Bulldogs.

Hope I’m wrong.

Possible. They have a pretty brutal middle part of the year though.

If they drop only 1 or 2 of those first five games it may change their fate dramatically.

At least at the start of the year the poorer sides typically are more competitive, with greater chance of upsets.

Like us after 2019, you come back with a much fixture normal (haven't looked depth) and a lot more teams have put more work into you, to find your weaknesses. The test is how well they adjust to the change.  They need to find goals and Jackson's not the answer there, so where do they come from.  Their mids aren't big goal kickers.

Can only hope the top 5 pick we wanted for Jackson this year will be delivered next year to correct the imbalance of this trade.

Remember our 2019 year...would have been no chance of that happening to us either.

We finished 2nd last...

Not saying it will happen by any stretch but recent history shows it's a possibility.

Imagine finishing in the bottom 5 having given away  your top end picks.

At least we were able to top up and go again.

That would be a sensational result.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
