The funny thing is that Jeremy McGovern, the 4 time All Australian, didn’t even play seniors until he was 22 years old.

you don't get a game based on draft number.  Jeffo has only in the past 6-7 games starting showing anything close to AFL form

Sparrow and Jordon both played zero games in their first 2 seasons.  LJ Kozzi Rivers played 40+.  Everyone is different.

No, they played Windsor straight away because they saw he was ready even though for example to me it looked like Kolt was far more ready at pre-season training, they held Kolt back until he played well in the midfield at Casey and he is doing well now.  They didn't play McVee in his first year when he looked miles off but played him round one in his second year when he had shown readiness on the back of a big pre-season.  They held back JVR in his first year and unleashed him when he was ready in his second year and he has been a continuous selection every since, unlike KPFs at other clubs who are in and out.  There are many other examples.

Perhaps you prefer the Jack Watts QB experience or Michael Tucks 100 games in the 2s  ...

Looking at Jefferson at the start of the year and seeing him now he has done a lot of growing physically and confidence wise. He is getting very close but do we risk him on such an important occasion, we have to beat the Weagles on Sunday, no ifs, buts or maybes.

That's true for Jordon, but Sparrow debuted in his first year at the club.

I don’t see the rush. He is a skinny key position tall. Why no rush on Adams?

We can’t let our desperation ruin his development. He’s finally showing consistent form at Casey and that’s all you can ask of him this year. I remember every man and his dog wanted Roo to debut in 2022 and he was far more physically developed. 
Roo had plenty of time to develop physically and work on his game and therefore has been able to make consistent impact at senior level. 
 

I wish the same for Jefferson and I think 2025 will be his year to try and cement an AFL spot. 
If finals is out of question we may give him a game later in the season for a taste, but right now bringing him in is setting him up to fail.

Nailed it JNM.

Jefferson is a long term prospect with plenty of talent, not a short term fix to any problems we are currently having.

He gains nothing by being outbodied at AFL level by stronger, more experiidefenders. At VFL level he can learn his craft and gain a lot of confidence.

A taste to reward him might come this year, but if not a 2025 debut is on the cards with a view to being an integral part of the forward line from 2026 onwards.

Hibba played 34 games in the VFL b4 playing senior footy.

I heard a post match interview with JVR last year on the radio and he was asked about being held back in the VFL for his first year. He instantly answered that he wasn't ready aerobically for AFL level football.

I am a fan of Jeffo and have stuck fat.

The decisions for the FD are probably is there a spot atm, is he ready to go at senior level, would a poor debut hurt him mentally and set him back and is he better than others available, or more deserving of an opportunity.

Fullarton played in a final against us, plus other senior games, did ok and yet hasn’t got a game with us yet. Maybe this week will be his first.

I am sure we have spoken to Jeffo about his progress many times and hopefully he is on board.

Maybe he gets a game later or maybe another pre season is needed.

Whatever, I am hopeful he will make it and when he comes in, he stays in, rather than being not ready and disappointing and setting him back.

The other thing I'd add, is the calls for Jeffo to be selected are in stark contrast to what seemed to be the consensus on this thread only a couple of months ago thst he wasn't going to make it at AFL level.

And I'd also note that selecting melk,  a senior, seasoned AFL player, first up after nearly 12 months out, rather than Jefferson  cuts against the idea that goody had given up on this years and planning for 2025 (eg by 'playing the kids').

I think Goody knows we need a seasoned body in the front half that is going to help bring the ball to ground and can stop their interceptors from cleaning up back there.

Without Petty and given the opposition, I can see why the FD have gone with Melksham, but I think Jefferson is close and will play this year.

Until about 8 weeks ago I thought he was another Lucas Cook & would never make it.

Since then I have been pleasantly surprised by his improvement. If he keeps that form up he should be a big chance to debut.
