Here's 6 players on our list that I've heard at one point or another are going to be future stars.

Realistically who of these comes into the senior side next season and who do they replace?

Are any of them actually any good and what do they need to do to give themselves a shot?

JVR - surely will play seniors next yr - happy for him to slot in place of melksham from semi final side.

Laurie - not sure - dev hampered by a lot of injuries in 2020

Howes - apparently v close to senior selection this yr but injured in vfl - may be spots in the jordon or hunt areas?

AMW - not sure

Turner - surely gets more games with Tomlinson maybe being traded, Hibbert longer in the tooth and Hunt traded.

Chandler - got some clearer air between him and seniors now with Bedford off to wherever. Really needs to seize any selection opportunity in a way that doesn't see him getting suspended for weeks for a concussing tackle.

I would definitely include Taj in this list showed a bit in the Granny and has pace and stamina and looks a chip off the old block.!

Howes also looks the goods, 6’3” has pace and skill just needs to build the tank and resilience for AFL and Disco  at 6’4” is ready to go add in JVR also 6’4” and with another pre-season should hold down the second tall for us.

There  are boys and will need a couple of years as role players before they really blossom.

Me I am expecting big improvements from Kozzie, Sparrow, Jordon, Petty, Rivers, Salem and Lever. Not sure about the other boys but you should never put limitations on young players, some will surprise you and some will frustrate and disappoint you.

High hopes for JVR and Turner to be semi-permanent fixtures in the side. Need to see more of the others but think Howes and Laurie should be pushing for senior games with Chandler perhaps having a similar year to Bedford as borderline best 22 and spending multiple weeks as the sub. Woewodin may push but can see him developing at Casey for another year. AMW is a clean one touch player but can't see him cracking into the side next year unless he significantly lifts his production and consistency at VFL level.

I like then all. JVR contests in the air and on the ground. Laurie can kick and score goals. AMW has some magic, Turner can play a role down back and Chandler is ready. Howes will be a player too.

Howes is a good prospect but looks like he needs a few pre-seasons before being ready.

Tim Lamb said Howes was close to debuting before getting injured.

Will want to find the ball a bit more for my liking.

JVR - 10-15 or so games, up and down, more a role player than good stats. Doubt he’s ready for finals but let’s hope so.

Turner - 8-18 games, Depends if Petty goes forward. Will be rather plain. Doesn’t intercept all that frequently, can read the play and out mark smalls but doesn’t climb over talls. Doesn’t provide much offensively. Obviously won’t be ready to take the games best forwards. But competes and is a natural footballer. Needs Lever, May and a dropping ruck to provide support

Howes 5-7 games, has some tricks and a tank but has to get much stronger with tackling and ground balls to be any chance on the wing at afl footy. Probably more of a half forward than a wing anyway but Goody’s rarely been interested in attacking tall half forwards (probably rightly so).

Chandler 5-10 games, needs to adapt his very good VFL form to afl footy. Defensive attention goes missing which it can’t because he just isn’t quick enough. Same in attack, tries to fend and do too much and lacks the strength and speed for that style of play. Needs to make simple quick decisions

Laurie 0-5 games, has exception skills but just too slow and doesn’t win enough of the ball. Position-less.

AMW - 0-4 games. groins didn’t make it through year 1, needs time to learn how to get consistency with his defensive game and playing 4 quarters. 2024 prospect.

I reckon Woey pushes for games too. He’s limited but made of the right stuff and can cover off a wing or defensive half forward.

Judd McVee showed signs of life late in the season too. Not tall, not fast, not strong at the contest, doesn’t rack up the ball, there’s a lot against him. But he does have a touch of class and could play some strong VFL footy next year. Outside chance of being a player in ‘24.

Yeah, i heard that but i didnt buy it.

We also had a bunch of injuries early in the year and there’s only so many players on the list.

It’s entirely possible that Howes was an emergency and close to the best 22 but is still a long way from playing consistent footy.

I expect him to push his case next year and earn a debut if things go well.

But no matter how talented he is and how he develops I don’t think he’ll be physically ready for a lot of games.

Watching him in the GF he positioned beautifully across the half back line playing a Brayshaw role. I was impressed

JVR will have a much better chance of success if Petty is playing forward

Turner will have more chances if Petty plays forward

Howes - I am doubtful he will make it given his lack of physicality - please don’t even try to compare him to Robert Flower

Laurie is skilful but he lacks speed and imo is too similar to Spargo

Chandler performed really well in VFL - that unfortunately doesn’t guarantee it will translate to AFL - he probably deserves a few chances in 2023

AMW has skills but doesn’t get much of it at VFL level - hard to see him playing AFL tbh

Taj W could be a very handy player just seems to lack pace - if he had Bakers speed he’d be a walk up start

I reckon if we pair JVR and Petty along with Tmac we'll rip the comp apart but i can't see this happening Goody won't have the stones to try something like this.

JVR & Turner the only two certainties for mine in terms of getting a handfull of games or more (barring injury).

Chandler will get a look in at some stage and is actually one of the more likely ins for sure.  Just not convinced that will turn in to a level of output that will ensure he can hold down a role and keep other smalls out returning from injury or a 'managed' situation etc.  Needs a decent block of games though and reckon he just might show he has turned the corner here in 2023.  Woe possibly vying for this role as well in 2024 so would want to get a wriggle on.

Laurie a maybe but would have held on to Bedford before him, who i thought was a class above.

Howes had too many interruptions to get a serious gauge on this season but showed patches of very nice form.  Should benefit from another pre-season and a few extra kilos, tank, experience & learnings at VFL level before being asked to take the step up.  Super young and not sure i would be rushing him in until he's super primed & 100% ready in all aspects.

Woe similar to Howes.  Looks great in patches but needs to build up some strength with another pre-season to stay over the ball & offer repeat efforts etc.  I wasn't as impressed as some here with his 2022 season but certainly worth persevering with for another season and see where he can get to.

Moniz needs another pre-season or two IMV but if he gets super serious about his footy, maybe working on his left side as well at times, then who knows.  A real natural who shows glimpses of brilliance (VFL level) but will need more consistency.  2024 a possible breakthrough year for a seniors debut?
