Holy lord.

Go to YouTube and have a look at 3 or so highlight packages. Not a single contested mark or strong body work lol. He came cheap as chips so who cares, but Jesus this guy is terrible.

Gee, give the guy a chance. Number 2 draft pick and good enough to be selected in a team playing in an AFL grand final.

Lets see how he goes. Loved Sam W  but he could be an upgrade on Sam. You don't get picked number 2 in the draft for nothing. Kicking style for goal very much like Bayley F.

They may have him earmarked for that third tall back spot if Petty goes forward

Well I think he seems to have been earmarked, at least on this forum, as the whipping boy successor to Sam, who took over form JW4.

Now he's a Dee, it definitely should have been a free in the GF last year when Brayshaw cannoned into his back...

What's the point of this? May as well have just hung on to Weid, Schache is basically the same player but with less physicality. I don't get it. I don't see him getting much time in the seniors at all.

Weve swapped a Number 9 pick with 62 goals in 59 games for a Number 2 pick with 78 goals in 72 games, saved 100k and upgraded 2 x 4th rounders to an early 3rd rounder?

Whats not to like?

To be honest, I think he would be on more than Weid was, as Schache signed at the end of 2019 after he scored 24 goals from 14 games as a 22 yr old. They wouldn’t have offered Weid much last year when he renewed and due to the very late draft pick we gave up for Josh, I suspect we’re taking on all his salary which is more than what he’s obviously worth

The point is that we got pick 37 for Weideman now and next year when he’s OOC we would get zilch.
Schace cost us nothing and is unrelated to Weideman.

I think that is about right.

Added to that, both players would not be considered to be in our best 23, but Schache is 4 cms taller than Weid and possibly a bit more versatile, having played at both ends of the ground and helping out in the ruck.

he was out of contract this year, likely to be delisted after their recent high profile draft and trade/fa recruits and we've grabbed him for a pick in the 60s even the doggies are unlikely to use. we get to choose the coin and the contract length. and im sure he woulda said yes to our first offer because it was us or the scrapheap

The club has brought Schache in as a back-up (forward, back or sometimes in the ruck)

Low cost and versatile but not first choice.  And there's probably at least 10 list spots that are regarded as not being starters.  Role players and back-up role players, insurance for certain positions (for example, the ruck or KF, KB), development types, draftees and project players

However I did notice that Josh picked up 15+ possessions against us in a 3 match stretch not so long ago.  So we've noticed him and now acquired him

Chances are Gawn and/or Grundy will miss a game or 2 so we'll need some sort of back-up in the ruck.  Or we might want to manage/rest either player periodically

It was either that or draft a beanpole 18yo late in the draft (and we haven't been going down that path in recent times ... for any sort of late picks)

I wish him well

You’re 100% right mate. I thought he had 1 year left for some reason.

Don't agree with that summation. He was handy, reliable and yes, the days were dark. In such a weak team, he was quite often a face-saver, finding space, taking marks, playing on to teammates, kicking goals when our scoring was making us all spew in the Southern Stand, and he proved to be a week-to-week asset without being a champion.

He was certainly not reliable. Not sure where you boys get your rose coloured glasses from. Nor was he handy. A week to week asset is rubbish, more so weak to weak. Absolute spud in the dark ages.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
