How good would the Hunty & Dogga podcast be from the West next year?

I've not been following in detail, but where is it confirmed that Hunt has definitively exercised his free agency rights and accepted an offer from WCE?

Has not been confirmed anywhere.

Some supporters would be better off supporting the individual that plays rather than the club they play for.

Tough business being an AFL club.

And if we're being brutally honest, we were prepared to give him an offer based on his output to date which has been inconsistent at best.

All the best at West Coast, let's add to this list now.

Melbourne also looks set to bring in a free agency selection, with Jayden Hunt on the verge of joining West Coast on a multi-year deal. The Eagles' interest in Hunt, revealed by AFL.com.au last month, is likely to be enough to garner a compensation selection for the Demons in the second half of the draft.

End of 2nd or 3rd round pick most likely.

Number of footy fans who’ve done this since the inception of the VFL/AFL… 0

😁

You know, Jimmy… nobody chooses to be heartbroken when their favourite player leaves for another club. It’s called being human. And you know what’s NOT being human? Ditching your club for another club just to follow your favourite player. That’s called being clinically insane. Imagine if your fave player had’ve been Phil Carmen or Geoff Raines for example. Merch alone would see you taking out a second mortgage, and this is money that could be better spent on things like therapy sessions or a frontal lobotomy or something.

Now if you’ll excuse me I gotta go and erase every single trace of Jayden from my phone, my car and my home. 😭

Sydney allegedly offered him two, so we upped our deal to keep him. Thems the breaks sometimes.

It was also reported by @Demons11 (?) that Hunt was offered a deal earlier in the year, which he refused to sign.

Think the fact that Hunt openly admitted to a poster on here on best and fairest night that he was fairly disappointed to be pushed out by the club proves that he wasnt/hasn't been offered a new deal by the club.

Merrys up to the report I heard on the radio Friday.

If that’s the case I call dibs on Clarrie. Sorry @Jaded No More 😁

Both things could be true potentially - 'Pushed out' could mean offered a horrible contract that the club knew there was 99% chance he wouldn't sign.

This is really disappointing to me and in a way doesn't make sense.

We're happy to push out Jayden Hunt but then resign Joel Smith to a bloody 2 year deal who's body is quite fragile.

At worse, Jayden Hunt would still be solid depth next year.

Completely agree and I said to Mrs Dw; Smith better be available for 23 games next season because that is who has pushed Hunt out.

This was always going to be a difficult year considering who was out of contract and the fact we need to find 3 draft spots every year. I will need some convincing that Melksham and Hibberd will  perform at the required level all of next season. To my mind Bedford might of signed for 3 years if Melksham was retired. Essentially we are granting a player one more year at the expense of a player we offered 3 yrs to and who is still very young and raw. Is giving an ageing player one year worth the potential of developing a young player?

I got a Swysh from him (paid by my children) for Father's Day in 2020. They told him I wanted to adopt him (true). He said he was honoured so no - he's mine!

Yeh, what ever we get for him we will probably move on or even pass on that pick.

i think you are looking at it the wrong way, all the players mentioned are fringe players.  The deal offered to Smith would be a lot less than what Hunt would be getting offered.  The club is probably thinking that neither will be in our best 22 next year, and backing Salem, and Bowie to pick up that spot.  As well as some other kids to progress more.

So if you have 2 players(Hunt and Smith)  where one is not a stand out better player than the other, and they are both going to be just a back up, well why wouldn't you sign the cheaper one and allow the Hunt to seek opportunities elsewhere.

You're right, it is being human and I know I preach club over player all the time but I've never said it's always easy. Some players are the fabric of a football club and their departure but tear that fabric apart. Depsite the football club making ruthless calls at the time that they thought wewre for the benefit of the club, the Shane Woewodin and Junior Mac decisions really haunted me andI felt we lost something that took more time to recover from than other departures.

So yeah, it should be club before player but that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt. Character is a big thing at a footy club. 🙁

I totally agree, Layz. It’s always going to be about the club. And rightly so. I’m (almost) always v sad when a player leaves. I regard our players as like sons and I liken their departure from the club to them leaving home. Ordinarily it’s like when my (real) son left home and now lives in Footscray. But with Jayden it’s like when my other son - also real :) - left home and now lives in Warsaw. And no matter how many times this happens… 💔 It never gets any easier.

I can think of at least ten players I'd move on before Hunt, including both Smiths, McVee, and Hibberd in similar roles. Disappointing decision by the club not to look after him.

Not sure of the specifics

In other words, you've got no idea of whether he did have a contract offer earlier in the year. What's your source?

If he's devastated with being pushed out, I doubt that it's true. And based on the compo pick we're likely to get, WCE aren't paying him huge dollars.

I understand where you are coming from we tend to adopt each new recruit and watch their development closely and enjoy their gains, 1st game, 50 games and once they reach 100 we are fully committed to them and hope they become 200 game players. It is always sad to see them fall by the wayside ala Rosman, etc and see others get traded out to other clubs for greater opportunity even when they leave we still tend to follow their paths to see how they are faring at their new club. For us Supporters it is like losing an extended family member.❤️💙😪😢

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
